DAVES AZT TOP TEN WATER TIPS

1. Before beginning a days hike or when leaving a water hole, follow Colin Fletchers advice, drink until you slosh.  Yep, keep pouring it down until it starts coming out your ears.

2. Fill all of your containers when theres water available.  Dont assume theres any at the next stop.

3. Soak your bandana and shirt when crossing a stream on a 70+ degree day.

4. When you come to a pond or lake---get in.

5. Tablets vs purifier vs boiling.  Well I dont know which one works best but make sure you treat all water you drink.

6. After stopping for the day and before going to bed, drink, drink, drink.  Tomorrow your body will reward you.  Yeh, I know, you'll have to get up in the middle of the night to pee.  That's good.

7. Keep a water bottle next to your sleeping bag.

8. Never count on water being at an Arizona stream or cattle tank.

9. Never drink the last sip from your water container.  If they find your dehydrated carcass, theyll wonder why theres still a swig of water in your bottle.

10. In eighth grade science you learned how many days a person can live without water.  Divide that by two when trekking on the AZT.
