GETTING TO THE START OF THE ARIZONA TRAIL (this may be the toughest part of your hike).  FYI, I haven't used any of these services:

ARIZONA/UTAH TRAILHEAD - 1. Fly into Las Vegas.  Take the St. George Shuttle Service (800-933-8320) to St. George, Utah ($25).  Greyhound Bus Lines also serves St. George.  From St. George, contact Wally at Canyon Country Outback Tours, Kanab Utah (888-783-3807).  He will take you the approximately 100 miles to the AZ Trailhead or pick you up there if you are hiking south to north. 2. The Trans Canyon Shuttle Service (928-638-2820) provides transportation around the Grand Canyon.  They may make a diversion to the AZ/Utah trailhead.  3.  For deep-pocketed hikers the Kanab, Utah Airport (435-644-2299) may make arrangements for a Flagstaff to Kanab flight.

ARIZONA/MEXICO BORDER - From Tucson, Arizona the Arizona World Shuttle Express (520-458-3330) will pick up at the Tucson airport and take hikers to Sierra Vista, Az. and then to Coronado National Memorial Visitors Center close to Montezuma's Pass.  Please contact them 24 hours in advance.

GILA RIVER TO PICKET POST TH Kelvin to Highway #60 three miles west of the town of S
uperior
1. The AZT Route isnt finalized from the Gila River to the White Canyon/Walnut Canyon areas.  The Teapot Mtn and Grayback Quadrangle topo maps are suggested in plotting a route.
2. The first goal from the Gila River is to get 5-6  miles northwest to a point NE of Copper Butte Mtn where a jeep road junctions with Battle Axe Rd. The jeep road leads west into a) Walnut Canyon and then b) White Canyon Wilderness. The jeep road from Battle Axe Rd will lead about 2 miles west to an artesian well coming from a pipe in the ground.  Continue on another mile and turn left at another jeep road that is marked with some rock cairns (Resist staying on the first jeep road that continues along the creek into a lush area.  AND if you get to a White Canyon Wilderness register, you didn't make the left turn I just mentioned).).  Approximately 1/4 mile further, off to the right is a carsonite marker (thin plastic 4 high and 4 wide post) on a mound of dirt.  I believe the marker now has an AZTrail sticker on it.  The trail is quite faint as it heads up the mountain.  After 3-4 miles you will come to an area aptly referred to as Hole-in-the-Rock (its about a mile east of Ajax Peak).  The trail goes on the left side of the Hole-in-the-Rock and then thankfully you start coming on rock cairns and signage that will guide you through Alamo Canyon and by the west side of Picket Post Mt to the trailhead.  The trailhead is less than mile south of Highway #60.

The Arizona Trail Association www.aztrail.org  has several segment maps available from their web site store.  Also the Arizona Public Lands Information Center (602-417-9300, 222 N. Central, Phoenix, Az 85004) ( www.publiclands.org )  is open daily and offers friendly help and merchandise about the Arizona Trail and other Arizona outdoor attractions.  I understand they now sell some section maps which are very good.  But, they are large and more than a couple are too much for a thru hiker but they would be great for a day or two hiker.
