DAVES AZT TOP TEN THINGS TO PACK

I
f you are a novice long distance hiker this section is for you.  Ill leave out the obvious like backpack, boots, sleeping bag, tent, compass, mirror, whistles, water purifiers  etc.  You can read any issue of BackPacker and they talk about such things.  Most things on this list are self explanatory.

1. Rubber bands for sealing a bag or keeping something closed.

2. Sealable sandwich bags keeps little things from getting lost or rolling around your pack.  Good for powdered Gatorade too.

3. Vasoline good for anything chafing or squeaking.

4. Extra flashlight batteries and bulb I actually had two flashlights go out the same night.

5. Toenail clippers a teeny overgrown nail can cause so much discomfort.

6. Mole skin you will get blisters.

7. Straight pins you will need to pop blisters.

8. Tweezers
and a comb theres an amazing numbers of stickery plants on the AZT.  And Jack suggests a comb to get those velcro like jumping cactus off of your arm.  Good idea Jack.

9. Baby Wipes they sure feel good cleaning your face at the end of the day.

10. Mesh Netting- Zillions of little deep throat bugs roam in a few places on the AZT.  You know, the ones that like to swarm around the face.  Get something you can cover your face with as you hike.
