The DBB Weekly News
AUGUST 10, 2001

Sadly it is my duty to report that the most anticipated DBB jam of the year, the Labor Day Jam in Wilmot, AR, has been postponed till November.  The DBB is still booked to play however.

In other news, plans for the new DBB studio in Temple have been finalized.  Plans are now in the works for a 15 track album to be released in December.  The Temple Sessions will begin on Saturday August 11 and will continue every other weekend until December.

The DBB has also booked a private party in November, and will be playing an open mike in the Temple area on Labor Day.

Much has changed since the last newsletter.  The gig has been "re-booked" at a different venue, for a younger crowd, but the DBB is still intent on delivering a loud dose of Classic Rock to Southeast Arkansas on Labor Day.
This past weekend the Band held a rehearsal/informal jam session, with Joe "Stairway to Heaven" Kerr sitting in on classical guitar.  In an unprecedented and unexpected turn of events, they played for eight straight hours, all the while depleting a keg of flat beer.  Instruments were swapped, cops were called by the neighbors.  Let me tell you folks, the energy and the drive is there; all it is going to take is a little time.  This weekend Rush and Will plan on locating a PA/mic speaker in San Antonio.  The very first "Temple Session"  is tentatively scheduled for the first Texas A&M football weekend.  Anyone who wants to join in the making of history is welcome; just be prepared to eat, live, and breathe rock and roll for the entire weekend.  Oh yeah, and nobody leaves the house.
DBB has also been invited to a private party/jam session on October 27th, featuring the Legendary Lothrop Brothers.  Those of you who grew up in Brownsville, TX in the 1970's may remember Bill Lothrop as the bassist for
Chris Rios and Blues Rush.  There will be over 60 years experience of music making present, so the Band hopes to glean some much-needed experience.
Talk to you next week-

Where to start....  Lots of developments this past week.  Saturday Rush and Will purchased a P.A. system, including a mixing console, 15-inch speaker, monitor speaker, and microphone w/stand at Mars Music in San Antonio.  Courtesy of Will's graduation gifts.  That very night, the Cat Farm sessions ensued at Rush's dojo in Pipe Creek.  Two double-sided cassette tapes were made:  the first mainly consisting of songs from the gig, and the second including many improv songs and a rousing story set to music by Dirty Will entitled "My Dry Spell Ended in Snook Texas one Evening."  The tapes were not of very high quality, but the Band overall was pleased with the way they sounded.  One more intense weekend of practice with Keith "it's all happening, it's all happening!" Payne should solidify their confidence in playing the Labor Day Gig.  On a different note, the Band now officially has a mascot.  "Bonzo", a 3-month old tabby cat, has taken up residence in Rush's house.  She is currently in the process of learning to play the tamborine.  Plans have been set to practice this weekend in Temple, and the ball is in Keith's court as to whether or not the rest of the band will have to traverse to Louisiana 2 weekends in a row.  Hopefully he will be anxious to play with the new sound setup and decide to make the 4 hour drive to begin the much anticipated "Temple Sessions".  We shall see.

Travelin' Band...... I need a beer.....but it's too damn far away from here!
