CHRIS'  Z18ET  INSTALL
NEXT PAGE OF INSTALL
Basically this is my 1968 import 1600. The plan was never to have a fully blown show car as i dont have the budget nor the time to do that. But what i did want and hope to achieve was a nice clean streeter that i could be proud of. The z18et was never going to be the powerplant rather an fj20det, but when a z18et came up with a host of other parts i couldnt pass it up (itemising it down the engine and gearbox were a small percentage of the $1200 paid for the host of parts and shell, mags, suspension,  interior, all new parts etc that i got). The engine itself ill get to later, but onto the rebuild. I basically stripped the car down to a shell besides the front suspension which had been rebuilt or was to be changed anyway. As can be seen in the photos I started with the engine bay. All parts were taken out and yes i mean all. basically i was left with a bare engine bay ready for preparing and  painting.
In these pictures you can see the primered engine bay pretty close to being finished. What it doesnt show is the time taken to remove the battery tray and smooth out the lines where the struts join the inner wheel arch and along the chassis rails. i never intended to go this far even with the bay but I'm happy with the way it turned out considering especially my lack of training, budget and experience. the battery tray was removed by drilling out the spot welds, then trying to massage the panel a bit so it was more round  shapped and finally much like a dent repair filling with metal mend and literally hundreds of hours worth of sanding.
