The Exorcism of Diablo, as told by Fang(A-M)
by Darkman

After being commanded by the Shaman to join in the Nightmare game currently occupied by Grarrrg the Exorcist, the Axe Master and Geezer set off to their aid. Upon entering Tristram, the new arrivals were beseeched with requests to come quickly and secure the stairs of level 15 which were held fast by the keen succubi that so dilegently served the Archbishop Lazarus. Fang selected his heaviest axe, donned a White Ring (his sole defense against Magic), and bounded down the portal which he knew to be ambushed. The Axe Master found himself at the base of the giant bone stairs face-to-face with Red Vex herself. He tried in vain to hack down this formidible foe, but no corners could be found to slow the bitch's escape. However, almost amused at Fang's relentless yet futile efforts, a mage wearing red spirit robes turned Red Vex and Black Jade to stone statues with ease and watched the Axe Master's great axe bash the unanimated witches with equal ease. After the job was done and the stairs secure, Fang glanced over at his new companion. Axe Masters shun the use of spells and cantrips and much prefer fighting on the physical realm with their huge axes and full plates, but Fang knew that his friend from the East was inherently weak and needed such spells to survive. And he didn't mind in the least having his enemies turned into such easy targets.

Meanwhile...

Goeth the OLD slowly walked through town hobbling on his travel-worn walking stick. The geezer had learned patience over the years and was in no hurry to rush into danger. Goeth had bought a myraid of drugs at Pepin's pharmacy, drugs necessary to combat old age, and now headed over to the ageless witch Adria to purchase the usual amount of Mana. Goeth stopped by a bench near the fountain and fed the pigeons while he stared off into the distance, eyes squinting to make out the blurs of light that were buildings. He heard the distinct yell of a warrior, "Charge!!!" The geezer decided maybe it was time to finally go down. Relunctantly he got up and headed to the portals. He could hear the pangs of battle even from town. More distinct though was the throbbing in his feet.

Back on level 15...

Fang charged blindly into Lazarus's chamber unsure of whether his mage companions were close at his heels. The filthy Advocates shrieked in horror as the Axe Master cut them down one by one. But Fang was taking serious damage from the out-numbering lawyers and was pleased to see his red robed friends burst into the room turning Lazarus and his coherts to stone. The motley group of adventurers make quick work of the remaining forces and gathered up the booty dropped by the felled witches and wizards. Dismayd by the utterly worthless treasures, they quickly set off in pursuit of the over-sized pentagram that would lead them to The Lord of Terror.

After a small battle with Doom Guards, the group found the pentagram and slinked down to the depths of level 16.

On level 16...

Level 16 was a level dominated by an endless army of Blood Knights led by none other than Sir Gorash himself (or themselves;). The party was in constant battle with the knights and never seemed to gain the upper hand. The brave Axe Master died many more times than he returned the favor and things were not looking good... until... United by the Shaman, the forces pooled together in one last stand. Amazingly, the party faced little resistance and the never-ending troops of Blood Knights had vanished as mysteriously as they had appeared. Level 16 had been won and it was time for the tyrrany of Diablo to end. The Axe Master bore down upon Diablo with his companions close at his side. His axe cut brilliantly and savagely into the demon's gigantic body and Fang freely accepted the spastic splattering of warm blood on his visage. Ironically, this battle with the ultimate evil seemed strangely simplistic and easy compared to the party's previous exploits... Could it be this was not the true Lord of Terror? That question would have to be answered another time...
