| Since 1975 I have been an artist, photographer, graphic designer and teacher. Recently completing a year long project as instructor/ gallery assistant at StoneMetal Press in San Antonio, TX. I graduated in 1974 from the Santa Barbara Art Institute and spent one year at the University of Houston as a teaching assistant. While at Houston my interest in photography grew and I left for a position as an in-house photographer for Hydro Clear Corporation (1975-1980). Where I was responsible for all photography, artwork and video that was utilized by the marketing department. These encompassed sales literature, informational data graphics and materials for trade shows. In 1980 the company moved from Ohio to Wisconsin and I decided not to move. An opportunity for an in-house photographer at a local hospital (Lorain Community Hospital 1980-1989) became available. There I was responsible for public relations photography, patient documentation and informational photos for various departments. In addition I became the graphic artist supplying artwork for doctors, creation of a quarterly magazine, brochures, ads and other collateral materials used by the marketing department. I also produced many videos, slide presentations and pamphlets for various departments that were used for patient education. Due to financial restraints the marketing department was reduced to a public informational person and I was let go. I started a freelance business (Ross Graphics
1990-1995) where I produced logos, ads, marketing materials, brochures,
flyers and slide presentation for various clients. These included Roach
Pharmaceuticals, Ford Motor, Red Cross, B.F. Goodrich and others. As well
as a creative set of T-shirt designs that were sold in stores and utilized
by the Cleveland Museum of Art for a King Tut exhibition. In 1995 I closed
business and pursued other ventures.
In 1995 I taught a computer graphics class at
Lorain Community College, taught portrait drawing for kids and adults at
a senior center, worked as a graphic artist for Letro-etch and then became
the temporary art director for a local newspaper (The Morning Journal
1997-1998). I was responsible for the advertising of the newspaper as
well as the creation of comp ads for prospective clients. I produced art
for special tab covers, re-touched photo's and was responsible for the direction
of 2 assistants.
An opening at (Lake Screen Printing 1998-2000)
offered an opportunity to be a full time creative artist responsible for
all designs and art for T-shirts, banners, signage and for art to be used
on novelty items. In the summer of 2000 I moved to Arizona.
In Arizona I worked as a graphic artist (Skee-Ball, Inc. 2000-2001) supplying graphics for their large game division. These were created on computer, outputted to a HP Plotter and applied to the games. In January of 2002 an opportunity to teach as an ESL Instructor at a private academy in Korea became available. After my time in Korea I returned to work as a framer for Michael's Craft store. And then worked for StoneMetal Press in San Antonio, TX. There I taught papermaking classes, was a studio assistant and assisted in their gallery. The papermaking classes were taught to children and adults and were designed so that anyone with a kitchen sink and blender could produce their own paper easily and inexpensively. Sample projects are on my web site. I returned to Arizona in June of 2004 and I'm available to teach drawing, papermaking or computer graphics. As well as work as a graphic artist or designer. |
