| About StarCraft |
| StarCraft is a multiplayer game played via the internet, designed by Blizzard Entertainment in association with Exodus, MindSpring, and
Primenet provide free access servers, the Battle.Net, to play StarCraft on. From all over
the world, thousands upon thousands of people access these servers to play StarCraft on at
the same time. Not only is StarCraft a game, but it has a very good chat forum, in which
users can join several established chat channels, other people's chat channels, or even
create their own chat channel. All player profiles are stored on the Battle.Net servers
now, as opposed to Diablo. Thus much of the cheating should be eliminated. This
space-based odyssey build 'em up, shoot 'em up type of game that offers a pleasant get
away from the current online games on the market. A player is capable of playing both a
single player option and a multiplayer option, but this web site will only concentrate on
content relevant to the multiplayer option of StarCraft. |
| Tips and Tricks On
Faster Connections |
| Tip and Trick #1 (Modem Settings): COM Ports: Make sure
your COM port settings are correct. If you are using a 14.4K modem or higher, and your COM
port is set for 9,600bps you will want to increase your setting. Make the COM port setting
at least 56K, and in most cases you will want it set to 115K. Set the Flow Control to
Hardware. On the Advanced tab set to "Use FIFO buffers" option and set them to
the highest settings. Protocol: Remove protocols that you do not use, namely NetBEUI or
IPX. You can keep the protocols if you like, and just make sure your Dial Up Network is
prevented from establishing the NetBEUI or IPX protocols while connecting to your ISP.
Under your Dial Up Network (My Computer) folder, find the connection to the internet you
currently use. Go to Properties, then Server Types. Then uncheck the protocols you do not
use. Dial Up Network: Under your Dial Up Network (My Computer) folder, find the connection
to the internet you currently use. Go to Properties, then Configure. Make sure your
Maximum Speed is set correctly. Then go to the Connection tab. You will see an Advanced
tab. Under the Advanced tab you will see a place for data called Extra Settings. Add this
string to the extra settings section at&f.
This initialization string may make your connection to the internet faster. Tip and Trick #2: Can NOT connect to Battle.Net? Everyone else
seems to be able to except you? No more my friend, follow these simple instructions and
you will be playing on Battle.Net in no time. To get on to Battle.Net with a faster/newer
server, and to get rid of ghosts (a character or profile that you see on Battle.Net, but
really is not there) that you have been seeing all day do the following steps. Find the
program called regedit.exe on your hard drive. This is your registry editor. Run the
program. You will see a folder called HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Go to that folder. Once there
you will see a folder called SOFTWARE. Go to that folder. Once there you will see a
Battle.Net folder. Go to that folder. Once there you will see a Configuration folder. Go
to that folder. There you should see a list of items one being the Server List. Take out
all the data in that list and log back on to Battle.Net. This should take care of any
ghost problems you are having and may even make StarCraft run a little faster for you.
This is a good way of getting back control of a chat channel that is lagged down by a
bunch of ghosts! This is not a permanent change. You will have to do this each time you
log on to Battle.Net. |
