| ~Chapter 2 ~ Purpose~ |
| It was just another normal training day. Nicole walked into Dr. Matsuka's office to find the older woman sitting at her desk reading something very intently on her computer monitor. She barely looked up when Nicole entered, only nodding her head slightly in acknowledgement and saying, "Have a seat." Nicole obliged by lowering herself into one of the chairs sitting in front of her trainer's desk. The woman's brow furrowed as she read more of whatever it was on her computer screen. After a few minutes, she appeared to be finished and looked up to meet her student's eyes. "I did not expect for it to happen so quickly, but the time has come for you to know your purpose in this world," she said. Nicole nodded. "What I was just reading was an email from my colleague, Doctor J. He, though, does not live in this time period. He lives in the New Age, the future, where your help is needed. He explained to me what I must tell you, and I will say this now, it will not be easy. You must leave everything behind. Your family, friends, school, and home. Now, you and four others will be sent to that time. Your purpose for the most part is to aid those in need of your help and the especially main goal is to take down an organization known as OZ." "I see." "Hai, that is about as much as I know. You will have to wait until you arrive, and Doctor J. will explain everything to you. It is a huge sacrifice to make, but the fate of Earth and space depends on you now." "I understand," said Nicole, restraining tears that threatened to fall. Dr. Matsuka nodded gravely. "I knew you would." ~*~ Nicole went home that night, informing her parents that she was leaving in two days...for good... Her mom and dad looked at her as though she was crazy. "Are you serious?" asked her little brother. Nicole nodded. "Unfortunately, yes. And there's nothing you really can to do to prevent me from going. I am required to." "O-okay...uh, will we ever see you again?" Nicole shrugged. "I highly doubt it, but maybe..." Her mom nodded. "i understand. You're old enough to make your own decisions now." "Hai, I would've gone off to college anyway, in two years." "That's true. It's just that we'll miss you very much." "I know. It'll be okay, though. You guys can get on without me. I promise not to kill myself, and I know there'll be people to look after me. Don't say anything to anyone, okay? I don't want them knowing that anything out of the ordinary's happening." **Two Days Later** Nicole had already packed her needed things. She had one large bag with a few outfits, accessories, and neccessities. She was also carrying a backpack. Her dark eyes surveyed her bedroom for anything forgotten. She was wearing a black spaghetti strap tank top with black pants. Her long black hair was pulled back into a braid, that hung down to her lower back. Jet black studs in her ears completed the look. Soon, she heard the honk of a car, that signaled for her presence. Nicole embraed and kissed her family, knowing that she wouldn't ever do so again. She hurried out to the waiting car, and got in, knowing that she couldn't ever look back. ~*~ When she arrived at the lab, her trainer was already waiting for her. "Come," she commanded. Nicole obediently followed. They came to heavy, steel, reinforced door with a timed sercurity lock on it. Dr. Matsuka punched in the passcode on the keypad and the lock clicked, signaling that the door as opened. The woman wrapped her hand around the handle and paused for a second. a small resound beep sounded, accepting the scientist's finger and hand prints. The dor opened automatically, revealing a lab that Nicole had never seen before. High tech machinery lined every single wall and at the center of the room was the gateway. It as circular, a wide metal ring made of gundanium to withstand the erosion caused by the backlashes from the the portal. At its center was a huge mass of swirling colors, first flashing blu-green, the purple-pink, then yellow-orange. "Are you ready?" Nicole could only nod. "I have trust in you. I know that you and the others will do good there. To me, it was a pleasure to train you for two years. All you must do now is walk through. The portal will take you there. Good luck and good-bye, Nicole." The soon to be sixteen year old nodded once more and stepped up to the gateway. She stared it down for a moment, then, without looking back at her present, she stepped through it to her future. ~*~ |
