| The first concert I ever filmed was STRANGE DAZE '97, America's 1st space rock festival ever, at Brushwood Folklore Center in Sherman, New York. This incredible three-day music festival was held outdoors at a "pagan" campground, featured more than a dozen space rock bands, and was headlined by THE greatest space rock band EVER - the mighty HAWKWIND. Fortunately HAWKWIND didn't perform 'til the second night, so I got to practice my new videography skills a bit on Nik Turner ~ an original member of HAWKWIND ('til my battery suddenly died!), who was being backed by FarFlung (which was basically members of PressureHed). I had borrowed a full-size VHS camcorder from one of my neighbours, and SirusBe ~ who has contributed significantly to every episode of BUCK THE SYSTEM so far, had also borrowed a camcorder from a friend (an 8mm), and got coverage of this event as well. STRANGE DAZE '97 was one of the most spectacular cultural events I have ever attended, and was the primary motivational factor that led me to get my first camcorder, and which ultimately brought me to the idea of producing my own tv show. Performances from Nik Turner and HAWKWIND at STRANGE DAZE '97 and PressureHed at STRANGE DAZE '98 (at Nelson Ledges, Ohio) appear on Episode Three of BUCK THE SYSTEM, and I'm sure there will be more from those shows on future episodes... So like, uhhh, stay tuned or something... |
