Chapter Twenty One
Lance cringed under his blankets when he heard someone knock on the
door. He didn’t have to hear her
voice to know it was Sarah.
Sarah knocked on the door again, then tried the door handle when no
one answered. It opened when she
twisted the knob.
Lance clenched his eyes shut tightly. All hell was about to break loose.
He’d had to leave the door
unlocked, if Sarah was to see them together. Them... her boyfriend,
his best friend, one of her best friends, and the
woman he was slowly coming to love.
“Justin,” Lance heard Sarah say softly, walking to the bed to shake
his shoulder. “Just, wake- WHAT THE
FUCK?”
She’d discovered Faith.
*~*~*
Justin and Faith both bolted up at Sarah’s scream. “Oh god,” Justin
moaned, when he saw Faith in his
bed.
“You fucking bastard,” Sarah said calmly, almost too calmly. “And Faith,
you’re the worst type of person
in the world.” Her blue eyes turned hard. “How the hell you could two
do this?”
“Sarah, it’s not like what it seems,” Justin hastened to explain, pulling
a blanket off the bed to cover
himself as he got out of bed. “Please, let me explain.”
Faith wrapped another blanket around her. “Listen to him, Sarah, nothing happened. I swear.”
“Oh, you think you can fucking explain why I find my boyfriend in bed
with one of my best friends and
why both of them are naked?”
“Sarah, nothing happened,” Justin told her, grabbing her arm. “I don’t
remember much from last night,
but I can tell you that I didn’t have sex with Faith.”
“And what proof do you have?”
“Our words,” Faith said. “Sarah, I would never, ever do anything like this. You know that.”
Sarah looked at Faith with a look of disgust. “I thought I knew you
once, Faith. I can’t fucking believe
you’d sleep with my boyfriend.”
“What proof do you have that we slept together?” Justin asked, turning her words back on her.
“You two were in bed, naked, together.” Sarah glanced at the floor.
“And this.” She kicked at a condom
wrapper on the floor. “What more do I need? I thought you were my friend,
Faith. And I thought you cared,
Justin.” She laughed, a harsh, cold sound. “Boy, was I fucking wrong.”
She walked towards the door, changed her
mind, and walked back to where Faith and Justin were standing. “Fuck
you, bitch,” she said to Faith, just before
slapping her. “And for you-” this to Justin- “I hate you.” She swung
her fist and punched him, then ran out of the
room.
“Sarah,” Justin yelled, bolting after her.
Faith sunk to the floor in a heap.
*~*~*
Faith felt arms wrap around her. “I’m so sorry,” Lance whispered.
Faith lifted her head so Lance could see her tear-stained face. “I know
where I fell asleep last night,
Lance.” She looked at him, her dark brown eyes boring into his green
ones. “Why?”
“I- I can’t- it’s hard-”
“You’re helping Wade, aren’t you?”
“Faith, I couldn’t-”
“Well, you can tell him he fucking succeeded. You’ve managed to ruin
your best friend’s and Sarah’s
relationship, along with my friendships. Yours too, probably.” She
pulled away from him and stood up, grabbing
her clothes. She turned so her back was to Lance and put her bra and
panties on under the blanket, then pulled on
her jeans and shirt. “Thank you, Lance. Thank you very much.”
*~*~*
Justin found Lance sitting on his bed, his head in his hands.
“I’m sor-” Lance began.
“Don’t even fucking say it, Lance,” Justin interrupted. “I know you
had to have something to do with it,
so don’t even. Just get the fuck away from me.”
Lance merely nodded, standing up and walking past Justin in silence.
*~*~*
“I hate her, I hate him, I hate everyone right now,” Sarah repeated,
pacing the living room of the
apartment. “I can’t fucking believe them.”
“Sarah, what happened?” Catriona asked. “Who do you hate?”
“Faith. And Justin.”
“Why?” Elona asked, mystified.
“I found them in bed together, when I walked into Justin’s dorm,” Sarah
explained. She felt tears rise in
her eyes and sat down in a chair. “I can’t believe it. One of my best
friends and my boyfriend.”
“Wait, Faith and Justin had sex?” JC asked.
Sarah nodded. “They were both naked, and there was a condom wrapper on the floor.”
“That’s so unlike Faith,” Catriona said.
Sarah nodded. “I know. That’s why I’m so upset. Faith was the last person I thought would do that.”
“Maybe she didn’t and it was all a set up,” Elona suggested.
“Why the hell would someone go through all the trouble of making it
look like they had sex?” Sarah
asked. “And who? Unless Lance was gone all night, which I doubt he
was, or he was in on it, no one could have
done it.”
“Did you talk to either of them?” Elona asked.
Sarah shook her head. “No. And I’m not going to until I calm down. Else
I might do something I’d
regret.”
The front door opened then, and Faith walked in.
Sarah started to say something but Faith held up her hand. “I’m just
here to grab some clothes. Please
believe me, Sarah, when I say nothing happened, because nothing did.
Ask Lance why I ended up in Justin’s bed.”
“Blame everything on Lance, I see,” Sarah snapped. “You’ve hated him
since the beginning, so I don’t
believe you when you say it was his fault.”
Faith took a shaky breath and slowly released it, looking around at
everyone else. Only in Elona’s eyes did
she a sentiment other than dislike.
Faith turned and walked to her room. Quickly she threw some clothes
into a bag and grabbed a few other
things she’d need, along with her backpack.
She departed without a word.
*~*~*
Faith stared at the pile of pills in front of her. Wade had wanted to
ruin their lives. Well, he was going to
get his wish.
She picked up on of the pills and brought it to her mouth. And saw the scar on her wrist.
She lowered her hand, her head dropping to the table. She couldn’t do
this. not now at least.
