Chapter Twenty Two
Lance looked at the empty seat next to him. Faith wasn’t in class, he
hadn’t seen her car earlier, and she
wasn’t even at the apartment anymore. He’d ruined her life, along with
everyone else’s. He was damned to hell.
Wade approached him before his next class, the one he had with Justin,
Catriona, and Chris. Faith was in
it, too, but she wouldn’t be there.
“Good job man,” Wade told him. “Meet me at the pier tonight and we’ll talk about a few other things.”
Lance nodded his head. He wasn’t going to fight it anymore; he had no reason to.
*~*~*
“What are you going to do to Elona?” Lance asked.
Wade grinned. “That’s not important. I see that Justin and Sarah are
no longer together, and everyone
hates Faith.”
“You had me ruin their lives.”
“At least it’s not as bad as what I’m going to do to Elona. She’s the
one I can’t wait to hurt.” Wade lightly
punched his shoulder. “Now that you’ve done that, I don’t need you
anymore.”
“But I can’t tell anyone because you’re still threatening my family.”
“Yep.”
“Fuck you, Wade.”
“Nah, that’s okay. I can’t stand gays. They should all be dead.” Wade
walked away then, leaving Lance
looking after him.
*~*~*
Faith was in class on Wednesday, but she avoided Lance during their
history class, and in their English
class, she avoided all of them. Justin was avoiding Lance too, and
had even left the dorms and was crashing in a
hotel room, like Faith.
Lance tried to talk to Faith after their history class, but she ignored
him, walking past him as though he
wasn’t even there.
Lance wished he’d had more backbone and could stand up to Wade like
he’d wanted to. But no, he had to
be weak and believe his threats about his family.
*~*~*
Faith stared at the bottles of pills. She had over two hundred pills
there, enough to kill her and probably
ten others.
She sobbed once as she took a drink of water, then brought the first
pill to her mouth. She took another
drink of water to wash it down.
*~*~*
Lance saw Elona with another woman. They were holding hands and talking.
Wade’s words came back to
haunt him.
“I can’t stand gays. They should all be dead.”
Lance knew what Wade was going to do to Elona then.
He ran out of the restaurant, Wade’s threats far from his mind. All
he knew was that he had to stop Wade
from doing what he was going to do. He had to tell Sarah and Justin
and everyone else the truth.
“Sarah,” he yelled, pounding on the door. “Catriona. Someone answer the damn door.”
“Go away Lance, none of them want to see you right now,” JC said from the other side of the door.
“Wade- he’s going to kill Elona,” Lance told him. “I have to talk to either Sarah or Cat.”
The door was thrown open and Chris grabbed him. “What the fuck do you mean?”
“Wade hates homosexuals, and Elona’s either bi or a lesbian. He’s going to kill her.”
“Why the hell should we believe you?” Chris demanded.
“Wade was threatening my family, which is why I did what he told me
to do that night. Justin and Faith
never slept together. I drugged them, Britney fucked Justin, and then
I put Faith in Justin’s bed.”
Chris dropped Lance and ran down the stairs. “I’m going to go find her,” he called, running for his car.
“You bastard,” Sarah said softly, and before Lance knew it, she had
punched him. “You’re a fucking
coward.”
“Yes, I know,” Lance agreed.
“I have to talk to Justin,” Sarah said, walking back into the apartment and grabbing her keys.
“I hope everything turns out okay,” Catriona said. She helped Lance
up and they all walked back into the
apartment.
*~*~*
Faith swallowed a second pill. Then a third. The more she took the easier
they went down. Her death
shouldn’t be too painful.
