| Intro: After a long day of traveling you slow your pass to start your search for a good place to rest for the night. Through the lush green trees you can see the warm glow of a campfire. Following the light you enter a small clearing where a young elven woman sits next to a genitally burning fire. Laying against her is a young displacor beast. The creature seems asleep until you and your party enter the clearing, then it jumps to its feet flatting its ears and whipping its tentacles back and forth. Calm yourself, Jaha. They dont mean us any harm. She places a slender hand upon its head. She turns her attention to you. I am Dove. I am a simple ranger with little to offer fellow adventures, but a place by my fire and sparse meal. You a glad to find a friendly face and a nice place for the night. You add your rations to the berries and nuts that Dove places in large leaves that serve as bowls. She also passes around a wooden decanter full of fresh spring water. A raccoon makes a noise entrance as it emerges from the underbrush. Dove laughs and informs you that the animal believes that you are sitting it its place. You spend that evening trading tales and learn much about the ranger. She has a strong desire to save baby animals and to raise them as her own. From the way the animals react to her, they hold her with high respect as well. You also learn that she is form the country, growing up on a farm. She still visits her family and sends what money she can back to them. She admits she makes very little as an adventurer as she spends a lot of time with the animals in stead of looking for a paying job. Though she knows that land and acts as a guide from time to time. After quiet a long time chatting happily everyone decides to go to bed. Sleep is full of restless dreams of being chased through dark and unfamiliar woods. Bare branches reach out tripping and snaring you at every turn. Close by Dire Wolves bay. Running blindly you stumble out of the woods. Before you a large black castle rises up out of the darkness stretching to the sky. Candles flicker in a few windows beckoning you to the safety within. Climbing the shear rocks towards the large doors you chance a glance behind you to see the Dire Wolves have made it to the base of the rocks. They do not try to follow but instead tilt their large heads towards the cold black sky and howl. Their calls fallow you as you enter the castle. Candles flicker to life as you enter bathing the great hall with a soft light. As you gather your baring, you spot a large shadow moving behind a far pillar. Stepping closer to investigate more shadows come to life. They start to take shape as little visions of horror with long teeth and claws. They converge upon you, biting and clawing. Their shadow claws drawing blood and inflicting unbearable pain. Waking with a start, patting dream bites, you glance at the rest of your party. They also suffered from nightmares returning the same hunted eyes. By the gods, Doves voice was barely above a whisper. You follow her stare to the strangely cast sky and black clouds swirl about the towers of the same black castle that loomed in your dream |
