My original stint as a volunteer at CHRW was from September 1987 to August 1988. I began by assisting in the music department entering new albums (yes, the vinyl kind) into the station log (no, the station did not have a computer then) and compiling the weekly Top 30 Chart. Once I finished my on-air training (including a couple of mandatory graveyard shifts) my name was added to the list of fill-in announcers that was posted in the studio. Because the list was in alphabetical order, I got a lot of phone calls – including one from Steve Kopp to host The Beat Goes On – before eventually getting my own morning time slot. Although I do not have any of my playlists from those days, I still have some cassette tapes from a couple of shows. I returned to CHRW in May 2003, first writing promos and then filling in on the air. From June 4 to September 3, 2004, I hosted The Eclectic Circus every Friday from 7:00-9:00 a.m., where I would spin an eclectic mix of music from the pop/rock spectrum and beyond. My playlists are catalogued below. I also had the pleasure of filling in for my good friend Skye on The Third Stone, CHRW’s world music program, on Thursday, February 10, 2005 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. The following week, The Third Stone moved to its new, and current timeslot of Thursday from 12:00-1:30 p.m. Remember the eighties? When boys were boys and men used hairspray. Well, every Tuesday from 1:30-3:30 p.m., your host Steve Kopp takes a retrospective look at the decade from a CHRW perspective on The History of Us. On December 28, 2004 and on July 6, 2004, I had the honour of sitting in for Steve.
