Darcy Alexandra Sharman was born in Cold Lake, Alberta, on March 29, 1972. Her family moved to Edmonton in 1975, where she attended York, Delwood, and Bannerman elementary schools, Steele Heights Junior High, and Victoria Composite High School (later known as Victoria School for the Performing Arts). After graduating from VIC with an advanced diploma, she became a student at the University of Alberta, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts (Dist.) in 1997 (majoring in Music and minoring in English), and a Masters in Library and Information Studies in 2000. |
| Darcy has been involoved in the Performing Arts since the age of 3, when she made her inadvertant public singing debut at the Edmonton Public Library while testing out the reverbatory properties of the children's restroom. She sang with many choirs in her youth, including the Columbian Girls' Choir, the Centennial Singers, and VIC's award-winning show and concert choirs. During her University days, she performed with Edmonton Musical Theatre, and participated in SingBach 1995. She also joined the U of A's graduate recital choirs and concert choir, whose performances included a concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Madrigal Singers. She has also been active in other artistic areas, including drama, dance and technical theatre. In 2003, she made her Florida debut, playing Philia in the Broward on Broadway production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. She has been studying Middle Eastern Dance with Myriam Eli of Harmonic Motion since Fall 2002, and occasionally performs in local venues. She is also pursuing a new recording project with the newly formed trio, Blue Stone. |

After graduating from Library School, Darcy worked on the third edition of the Bruce Peel Bibliography of the Prairie Provinces to 1953, finishing the work of the late U of A Chief Librarian and translating the whole into electronic format. She also performed editorial work on Pierre Ouvrard : Master Bookbinder, which was published by the U of A Press in Spring 2000. She is a member of Beta Phi Mu, The American Library Association (ACRL Division/RBMS), The Florida Library Association, and the Broward County Library Association. In September 2000, Darcy accepted her first professional position as a Reference Librarian at the South Regional/Broward Community College Library in Pembroke Pines, Florida, USA. In October 2002, she transferred to the Southwest Regional Library, also in Pembroke Pines, where she now works as the Assistant Section Supervisor in the Computer Centre.
