| The Auction at the Mountain Chalet. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Dear Journal, 10:30 a.m. Mum and I arrived at the Mountain Chalet for the auction. We checked in and were given name tags. Now we had 2 name tags to wear. Before I left home, I made name tags for some of the coffee and chat club members especially since I know I am not good with names. As soon as we were let into the hall, we readied a table for ourselves, Beverly, Floss, Gloria, Lynette and Meg. A married couple joined us and that made the table complete. Soon thereafter the hall was filled. A prayer for PEACE was said near exactly 11 a.m. connected with other parts of the world. During the entertainment portion of this event, I began getting some poetic inspirations. I wrote 2 poems written which are posted on page 7, the next page. As I listened to the songs, my mind wandered to thoughts of friends who could not be there and friends no longer with us. Ron Rich sang a song for Peace. Pete Huttlinger -- guitarist extraordinaire played for us. Mack Bailey did a set of songs. "Polka Dots and Moonbeams" came first and as this song played I thought of Terry aka Pug-Nosed Dream. He played "Farewell Andromeda" and then said, "I write original songs, but no dark writing is appreciated as it makes for bad times." "It's a Sin to Tell a Lie" was played. Then an old tune "..I slept on the chair since there was more of her there.." [I remember this was sung by Cher to Tony Randall on her '70's TV show. It always makes me laugh.] Then Mack did another original tune as well as one by himself and Tom Paxton. ".Just because you can't hold me, doesn't mean I'm not there." Then he spoke about his daughter's original songs especially one entitled, "Moonlight Sonata." Christopher Nole did a honky tonk tune on the piano and Frank DeLaMarre sang, "Take Him Home" a Sr. JD dedication song. At this point, my mum gave me a small photo of Sr. JD that she bought for me. It meant alot to me and I thanked her very much as tears came to my eyes. "Cold Nights in Canada", "To the Wild Country" and "Wildflowers in a Mason Jar" were played. ["Wildflowers" is from my fave Sr. JD album, "Some Days are Diamonds," which is the only true country album.] Twirp Anderson played "Country Roads" and "My Heros Have Always Been Cowboys." Then he asked for requests and said, "I never know the songs being requested, but I bet you know "Rocky Mountain High," so he played that. Then he did a little auctioneering. $250.00 was paid for a 1st printing of "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" while $450.00 was collected for a signed "JD" album. Floss told me that if she ever paid that amount for one item, her husband would kill her. Ron Rich sang an original song and then the "Ballad of Bill Clinton" Next was "The Flower that Shattered the Stone," "Lilacs in the Springtime" an original tune, "Perhaps Love," another orginal song, "Back Home Again," "Eagles and Horses" and finally "Annie's Song." The event was good, lunch was great and it was fun to watch the auctioneering. |
