The Asa Taran (Divine Thunder)
The elite warriors of the guild provide many services to the guild both within its numbers and out in the realm.  Asa Tarans are relied upon for the widest array of responsibilities before accepting the mantle of Avatar and thereby officer of the guild.  It is the most demanding, but highest regarded (and feared) position in the guild below Avatar.  The tasks and responsibilities of the Asa Taran include...

1.  Provide elite military aid in any form of the Realmwar as a "special forces" type officer in the army.  Though the whole of the Hibernian army does not recognize the status of the Asa Taran, the guild does, and relies on them to act as advisors or leaders in the chaos of the battlefield.

2.  Act as the Faithguard, the personal bodyguards of the Avatars against all forces that would see them and the guild destroyed.  The Asa Taran attend the Avatars in many aspects of the guild, both protecting them and learning from the Avatar's lead and experience.

3.  Perform the duties of guild enforcers, knowing the ways and beliefs of the guild and indenfiying problems or violations by its members.  This sounds like a malicious or restrictive role, but it really just comes down to making sure the guild is maintaining a general and overall roleplaying front.  If an Asa Taran sees any of the guild openly disregarding what it is that the guild stands for, it is their duty to confront the offender and encourage or warn them to restrain OOC statements to "tells".  Also, the Asa Tarans are charged with carrying out any punishment the Council of Avatars should deem necessary (depending on certain ceremonies or storylines this may be called upon).

4.  Partake in many of the guild ceremonies and attend the Council of Avatars should you be able.  The Asa Taran actually play an active role in many of the guild ceremonies and may find it useful to attend the Council on matters concerning the guild.

In a way, the rank of Asa Taran can be seen as Avatar-in-training, but it is also a viable rank to settle on, providing this role to the guild for your entire duration.  The Asa Taran does the most for in-guild roleplaying of duties, responsibilities, storylines, etc. without having to accept the official responsibility of officer.  If you want to be highly involved in many of the internal storylines and guild activities but not want to be called upon to attend the Council of Avatars or act as official Avatar to the gods, then this is the role for you.
However, should you wish to join the ranks of the Avatars, the steps below will lead you to your Ceremony of Declaration and your position within the humble servants of the gods.

1.  Serve faithfully for a time carrying out the duties of the rank with an eye for creativity and guild improvement in mind.  This includes creative roleplaying during all guild events, Realmwar engagements, ceremonies and Council meetings, and even from time to time over general conversation.  Some of these creative self-storylines could include plots against the Avatars, special missions during the Realmwars, or finding, exposing, and punishing a spy of the enemy within our midst.

2.  Undertake a complete the Quest of the Avatar, a tailored quest for you to complete bestowed upon you by the Avatars.  It may involve some of the other members of the guild, or it may be all your own, but when completed it will prove your dedication to the gods and your overall skill as an adventurer.  See the Ceremonies section for more details on the Quest of the Avatar.

Once these two things have been accomplished, a time for the Ceremony of Declaration to occur must be determined.  It is attended by as many of the guild can attend, and will usher the Asa Taran from his post into the halls of Avatars.  During the ceremony the Asa Taran will declare which of the three Avatar paths he or she wishes to call their home, and will serve out their time within the guild as an officer of the guild and a divine servant of the gods.  More on the Ceremony of Declaration can be found under the Ceremonies section, and the three Avatar paths can be found below or on the main Heirarchy page.
