All Roads lead to the top of Arkansas!

Travel Directions to Mt. Magazine State Park:

About the Roads

State Highway 309 from Havana to Paris is designated by the state of Arkansas and The US Forest Service as the Mt. Magazine Scenic Byway and offers access to even the largest of vehicles.  The road is steep and there are some sharp curves that requires caution but vehicles of all sizes have been traveling the highway for years. It's a very popular ride for motorcycles.  From Paris, the road is a more gradual climb to the Park but also requires the care and respect you would give to a mountainous highway.  Most all of the Byway is through the Ozark National Forest and offers great views from several stops along the route.

Don't Worry! The Pig Trail is so named because for many years, it was a popular route for the thousands of Arkansas Razorback fans heading north to call the hogs in Fayetteville.  With the construction of wider, faster and more direct routes, it's now "off the beaten path".  But for scenic beauty the route is second to none.  North of Paris, the Pig Trail hits the heart of the Ozarks and offers access to several natural attractions including the Mulberry River

State Highway 10 west of Little Rock was recently widened and resurfaced and offers one of Arkansas more scenic drives.  Construction is wrapping up west of Waveland (in Yell County) on to Booneville and Greenwood.  Certain portions of the highway between Perryville and West Little Rock are designated as scenic highway.  Small town America is located in many of the communities along the way.  Coffee Shops, gift stores and Mom and Pop Restaurants are easy to find and offer you a forgotten choice in this day of fast food and mega mart shopping.

You'll find State Highway 7 listed as one of Americas best in many travel publications.  Historic Hot Springs National Park Arkansas is along the route as is a good portion of the Ouachita (Wa-shi-ta) National Forest.  Hot Springs offers theme parks, fine dining, lakes galore, live entertainment, unique shopping, and much more.  Heading north from Hot Springs, look for the directional signs placed at Ola.

North of Dardanelle, the Arkansas River and Russellville, Highway 7 winds through the heart of the Ozarks passing Jasper and The Buffalo National Wild and Scenic River.  This is America's 1st nationally designated Wild and Scenic River.  Harrison is the last stop in Arkansas before heading on to Branson Missouri and the first stop in.
