ACADEMIC GRADES
(Provided by Antelope Valley Joint Union High School District)

The following guidelines are set forth to aid the teacher in arriving at grades that are uniform in our school system:

A grade of A implies that a student:
is an efficient, independent, and accurate worker
uses creative thought in seeking solutions to problems
participates thoughtfully and constructively in class discussions and projects
makes independent and efficient use of outside resources to supplement class materials
profits from the teachers suggestions by incorporating revisions into his/her work
  submits work of superior quality
takes the initiative to make up work missed due to excused absences

A grade of B implies that a student:
is prompt, thorough, and accurate in completing assignments
takes logical approaches while seeking solutions to problems
participates regularly in class discussions and projects
occasionally makes use of outside resources to supplement class materials
submits work of above average quality
takes the initiative to make up work missed due to excused absences

A grade of C implies that a student:
is generally prompt and accurate in completing assignments
occasionally participates in class discussions and projects
makes practical application of materials presented
  submits work of average quality
occasionally takes initiative to make up work missed due to excused absences

A grade of D implies that a student:
fails to regularly submit assigned work
seldom participates in class discussions or projects
seldom asks for clarification of directions for completing assignments
may need to improve attendance and work habits

A grade of F implies that a student:
makes little or no effort to complete assigned work
seldom or never participates in class discussions or projects
  may exhibit chronic attendance problems
may exhibit behavior which negatively influences the learning environment for other
  students

A grade of I indicates that no withdrawal grade has been received from the students previous
school and provided to the teacher.  If no transfer grade is received, the I remains as part of the transcript and counts toward the students GPA. Teachers cannot issue an I grade without the guidance of the registrar.

A grade of W indicates that the student was withdrawn from the class for disciplinary reasons
or other administrative action.  This grade counts 0 grade points of GPA.

CITIZENSHIP GRADES

Citizenship grades will be issued only by classroom teachers by using an O, S, N, or U.

A grade of Outstanding (O) indicates that the student is always concerned about the welfare of the class and always supports the classroom rules.

A grade of Satisfactory (S) indicates that the student consistently shows regard toward classroom rules and is concerned about the general welfare of the class.

A grade of Needs Improvement (N) indicates that the student occasionally disregards classroom rules and shows some disregard for the general welfare of the class.

A grade of Unsatisfactory (U) indicates that the student consistently shows disregard for classroom rules and opposes the general welfare of the class.
