| Fishing on Lake Nipissing - Fishing Tips Jigs |
||||||||||||
| Jigs tipped with plastic grub-tails are one
of the most effective lures that I have used. They work in the
weeds and around the rocks. I have caught more fish and more
species of fish on jigs then any other lure. My secret to fishing
with jigs is to use more of a horizontal presentation with them instead
of the more traditional vertical jigging that is used in deep
water. I cast the jig as far away from the boat as I can and then
retrieve it by lifting my rod tip and winding in slack line as the jig
drops back to the lake bottom. You can vary the retrieve speed
from very slow to very fast depending on the mood and species of the
fish. A slow steady retrieve along the bottom works well for bass
and walleye in the weed. A fast retrieve where you rip the jig
off the bottom seems to work better for pike. I recommend that you attach the jig to your line with a snap swivel to prevent any pike from cutting your line with their teeth. My favorite all-purpose jig combination is a red ¼ ounce jig tipped with a 2" canary yellow grub-tail. Other combinations work too, but the red/yellow combo is hard to beat. Red/yellow jig |
