The Renaissance began in Italy, where there was always a residue
of classical feeling in architecture. The Renaissance might have
been expected to appear first in Rome, where there was the
greatest quantity of ancient Roman ruins. During the Renaissance
came with the Medici family which ruled the country for many
generations. Under this family's leadership, Italy was economically
prosperous and politically stable. This family used its wealth to
support many famous and talent artists. Most of the arts and
sculptures here are products of the family's support.
