Richmond's sheepmeat processing works on the southern outskirts of Dannevirke provides employment for around 500 odd persons. Most of its products are exported to Northern Hemisphere countries. A similar sized plant owned by the same company is located 40kns North of Dannevirke. A smaller meat processing company employing around 150 people is located within the town boundary.
