Diabetes- results from lack of insulin or a lack of body cells to respond to insulin; two types
      Type 1 (insulin dependent)- auto immune disease where the immune system attacks insulin-producing cells in the pancreas; insulin that can't be made by the pancreas can be replaced with daily injections
      Type 2 (non-insulin dependent)- most common form of diabetes; the body's cells become gradually less responsive to insulin which causes the pancreas to produce more until it no longer can
*symptoms: increased urination and thirst, decreased energy and increased appetite, weight loss, vision problems, tingling sensations and pain, confusion and loss of consciousness
