Number 3 of 6 Problems

between

Beginner's Crack and Transportation

in

The Pit

There is a set of problems which go up the section of rock in The Pit (See Map 1.) between Transportation (the large diagonal crack on the right of The Pit) and Beginner's Crack (the seam about 6 feet left of Transportation), without using the holds or edges of either of those cracks. In the words of the penultimate Indian Rock boulderer, Fred Cook, "There are six problems [there], before they get really hard." The easiest uses all holds, and in it most classic form mantles the large hold in the middle of the face. This is referred to as Number 1

Number 3 (shown in the video) eliminates all the large holds, including the big hold in the middle and all the good footholds. Surprisingly, the problem is still pretty easy, even without any big holds. It yields to a combination of balance and footwork. The other variations use combinations of smaller and smaller holds until there is nothing but balance and footwork on essentially nothing.
