| It would seem that the terror continues for us here in the US. Wars and rumors of wars. The current topic of conversation is the Anthrax scares. Who's next, wonders everyone over water cooler gossip and talk show banter. The thing I wonder is whether this isn't the work of copycat style terrorists of the American persuasion. It seems pretty ineffective since common antibiotics seem to kill off anthrax, so why? Just for the element of fear? Probably. Our economy is going right in the s*itter at an alarming rate. Companies are going out of business right and left and people are suffering the effects, having made long term plans based on the promise of future income now gone. The positive input I have to offer is to stay involved in the economy, don't lock your doors and hide. Economics is an inexact science, but as nearly as I understand it it is mostly based on psychology. We all agree that a piece of paper is worth money, so it is. It has no inherent worth but that which we decide. However, the present state of things requires a somewhat more mundane solution. To bolster an economy is much like priming an old-fashioned pump, you must pour a little water in to get more water out. The funny thing I suppose is that sincea great deal of the conflict in the world has to do with the "Rich" and the "Poor", it is ironic that we all simply agree on the concepts that uphold that principle. How transient and ephemeral a thing can seem when viewed through a Metaphysical eye*** 10/18/01 |
