2001 - Ph.D. Program Stage

Comprehensive exam:
I passed my comprehensive exam in December, 2000. I wrote the comprehensive exam in the following three areas:

(1) ESL/EFL writing and second language education;

(2) theoretical framework and educational practice: first language's influence on second language acquisition, computer-mediated communication (CMC) technology and theoretical framework;

(3) research and inquiry: ethnographic approaches and their implications for second language education.

Proposal:
My proposal was approved by the CTL (curriculum, teaching, and learning) Department and was submitted to EERC (Education Ethics Review Committee) for approval on May 22, 2001.

Dissertation title:
Creating a Knowledge-Building EFL Writing Environment through Design Experiments Using Computer-Mediated Communication Technology

2001

On January 11, 2001, Daniel was officially informed by Dept. of CTL (Department of Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning [http://www.oise.utoronto.ca/depts/ctl/]) to have successfully completed the Departmental Doctoral Comprehensive Examination held in December, 2000. He has beome a Ph.D. candidate since then. He can now proceed to his thesis work.


1999

Daniel Teng-Lung Peng is currently a Ph.D. candidate at OISE/UT (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada). His specialization is Second Language Education. He is also interested in computer-mediated communication technology (henceforth CMC technology), especially in computer-based EFL learning and teaching. His research interests involve Academic Writing in English, CMC technology, and computer-supported intentional learning environment.
