| March 11, 2002 Well, it's been a trying last couple of months. The Indoor season has come and gone and I have not been able to race yet. I have been nursing a glute injury that has had me sidelined from any serious workouts since December. So after seeing numerous doctors, massage therapists, and orthopaedic specialist, I have finally found someone who knows how I feel, how I think, and what's going on with my glute :-) Tom had suggested I see him when I got back from South Africa as the glute was still not well. His name is Dr. Rob De Steffano, and he's a chiropractor who specializes in deep muscle injuries. He uses active release therapy techniques and has been pretty successful in helping a number of high level athletes heal from things like this. It has been just over a month now and I am finally getting back to some proper training. I'll tell you the hardest part of being injured is the mental side of the injury. It plays with your mind and can drive you nuts if you let it. This time I decided I wasn't going to let it get to me. So instead I tried to see the good that could come of it. The fact that I was having to take down-time in my training meant I could focus more on building my mental strength and although I couldn't run too far or fast, I was still able to run and maintain some fitness level. Who knows, maybe this is just what I needed to hold me back so I can have a better outdoor season - after all, I do believe all things happen for a reason !! So now I'm back to training and am trying to focus on building some strength for the upcoming season. This year I will focus on the 1,500m and hope to get my time down a lot from last year.
