In the middle of the night on the second day, we came down the highway into Las Cruces New Mexico. There was a rest stop just outside the city, and we pulled off so I could sleep a little more before we continued on our way.
I was just getting comfortable, when Daniel turned on the overhead light in the car. He asked me to sit up. I was groggy, and didn't know what was happening.
He turned towards me, and put a ring on my finger. It was a simple, beautiful twisted copper wire ring that he made with some spare telephone wire he had brought with him. He looked at me, and I started to cry because I knew what was coming. He smiled, and said, "Lisa, will you marry me? It won't be for a long time yet, but I can tell you're the one." I said, "Yes!"
Here we are, six years later. After a whirlwind romance and a long term engagement, we still know that we were meant for each other.
