History St. Joseph's Fencing Academy (SJFA) was founded in 1982 by an ex-Josephian, Jeffrey Lopez who graduated in 1973. It was then the only fencing club in a local school. His vision and foresight, coupled with the assistance of his strong team of coaches (who all hailed from Saint Joseph's Institution) allowed him to reach his goal of making SJFA one of the best fencing clubs in Singapore. The Saint Joseph's Fencing Academy was initially called the Saint Joseph's Fencing Club. In 1990, a decision was made to change the name to the present St. Joseph's Fencing Academy as it was felt that this more adequately represented the achievements and the aspirations of the Academy and it's Coaches. To date, SJFA has trained countless National, age group as well as SEA Games medallists Practically every single Under Twenty Foil Champion from the past 20 years has hailed from SJFA. and 3/4 of the present Foil National Cadet Team and 1/2 of the Foil National Squad are ex-Josephians. With a steady flow of young potentials and careful grooming by the coaches, the club has has established itself as the undisputed Foil National Under-20s champions, fencing against some Junior Colleges, University, Singapore Armed Forces and National fencers. In this vein, SJFA will continue to strive to inculcate the values fencing has to offer: discipline, determination and dedication among others, and will also continue to educate Josephians in the ideals of both man and God, never forgetting the guiding Lasallian spirit which has gotten us so far.
