In 2000 we celebrated the 3000th anniversary of Georgian statehood;

3,000-year-old inscriptions found by archeologists at the ancient site of Grakliani Hill in Georgia places prehistoric Georgia as one of the first civilizations to use written language. The writing was discovered on the altars of a 10th century BC temple dedicated to a fertility goddess. Miami-based Beta Analytic confirmed this was the oldest written language in Georgia but in the top three oldest writings ever discovered.

2. In Georgia, in the village of Dmanisi, the skull of the FIRST inhabitant in EUROPE was found (1.7 million years old);

 The ancestral language, “super-language” spoken at least 15,000 years ago all over Europe and Asia can be traced down to the language spoken by people living in modern territory of Georgia – says  Professor of Evolutionary Biology Mark Pagel from the University of Reading.

Georgia is the cradle of viticulture and wine-making. Among the 4000 sorts of vines, registered in the world, 500 are Georgian sorts. The rules of growing and caring for vines, were known on the territory of this country as early as 3300-3200 B.C.

Out of existing 27 species of wheat in the world, the major part – 14 species are found in Georgia (and 6 among them are endemic), though with massive import of Genetically Modified wheat endemic species are endangered;

Georgia has a lot of centenarians, that has attracted worldwide interest. In Tbilisi alone there are almost 100 people who are over 100 years old. Long life often is attributed to eating Georgian fermented yogurt called MATSONI.
In the Dannon yogurt commercials, in the United States, shots of elderly Georgian farmers were interspersed with an off-camera announcer intoning, "In Soviet Georgia, where they eat a lot of yogurt, a lot of people live past 100".

The Georgian Shepherd Dog (which Russians named in the 19th c. as a Caucasian Shepherd) is one of the best guardian breeds in the world.

The common pheasant (also known as the Colchian Pheasant) is an endemic bird of Georgia which has been widely introduced throughout the rest of the world as an important game bird.
