*24.8.1944: "Catargiu" sunk by Soviets at Vâlcov and "Kogălniceanu" at Chilia Nouă. Both monitors were recovered in 1953 and repaired at Brăila and Giurgiu shipyards. Used 1953-1957 as training ships. Passed to the reserve in 1957. Scrapped between 1959-1962.
**Captured by the Soviets in 1-2.9.1944. and used further on as 'Mariupol' ('Lahovary') and 'Azov' ('Brătianu'). Returned to Romania in 1951.

History: 1913: built at Ganz Co Danubius shipyard from Budapest as "Monitor VIII", then named "INN"; 1915: first action near Belgrade; 12.1915-5.1916: repared in the shipyard; 8.1916: in action on the Romanian Front, it sunk the Romanian passenger ship "Călugăreni"; 29.9.1917 sunk at 14 km far away of Brăila. 28.11-4.12.1917: raised from the Danube. 13.4.1918: renamed as UJVIDÉK, then as MARX (during Kun Bela's Bolshevik regime). 11.1918: Captured by the Yugoslavs and interned in Novi Sad. 1920: distributed to Romania and renamed as BASARABIA; 1942-1943: entirely rebuilt and up-gunned at Galați; 5.9.1944: taken by the Soviets and renamed as ISMAIL; 1951: returned to Romania and renamed as M 405; 1960: scrapped.
