I read about making a tool like this in the MGA list archives. Apparently a similar tool, though slightly better tooled, is used to locate rivets in the airline industry. I used a scrap strip of metal, bolted one end together and drilled a hole through both strips at the opposite end. Then a screw is placed through the inner hole, I ground the threads on this screw to have it slip easily in the localized hole. This screw is placed in the existing hole in the door metal, the outer strip hole is then used to drill the panel. This worked well overall for me. |
