Goth metallers will be pleased that the electronics have been stripped back to a glacial atmospheric presence and the return of the down tuned Black Album style riffology. Singer Nick Holmes ponders his position outside of the Eden of high-flying metal success and says: Its difficult to say if compromising on the sound would have helped us or not. Around the late 90s, we completely avoided going to America, to concentrate more on Europe. In retrospect its easy to say if wed done more over there wed be more established but we tend not to look back and say, We should have done this, we should have done that, because it doesnt matter. It isnt going to change a damn thing. You could easily end up becoming embittered. I dont think theres an easy route to success, you just have to work hard at it and hope for the best.
When we mention his career resembling that of Satan, to be fair, he at least thinks about it for a bit before harrumphing: Yeah, well Ive leafed through that book a few times but it seems to me that theres too much open to interpretation there. Theres too much stuff that can be taken as metaphor for whatever you want. Its a really difficult question to answer. Maybe you can say were sticking two fingers up at the record industry but its not actually the case at all because you can only stick two fingers up at everyone else for so long before your eventually vanish because youve alienated everyone. You have to conform at some point I think or you wont get anywhere. [NEXT] [PREV] [MUSIC] [HOME] |
