Nuray Rya
One evening in 2001, Nuray Rya heard drums while attending a convention. She followed the sound to find dancers surrounded by drummers. She stopped a dancer and asked to learn. Nuray Rya has trained in belly dance, since that night. Nuray Rya's formal training began in 2001 with May el Amar. (May el Amar is known for her Ghwazee and Saidi folkloric performances.) A variety of instructors and dance styles from African and Mediterranean regions shape Nuray Rya’s dance style. Ziah, Director of Awalim is Nuray Rya’s current instructor in Tribal improvisation. Costume design and improvisation to “live musicians” are Nuray Rya's favorite past times. Most of Nuray Rya's solos are original choreographies or improvisation in a high energy gypsy style. Currently, you can catch Nuray Rya teaching "Belly Moves" at Bally Fitness. She has appeared on television and video supporting belly dance aerobics. |
