Canadian Senior Dance Figure Skaters

This team recently decided to end their partnership.  Tara is going to concentrate on her academics and Tyler is currently looking for a new partner and wishes to continue skating.

I want to thank them both for the opportunity to do this site this year and wish them all the best.  Hopefully this site will begin again with a new partnership.

Tara and Tyler - Mariposa Gala 2003

Tara and Tyler won the gold this weekend in the Thornhill Summer Skate Competition - Pictures of the event coming soon!

A Little bit about why Tara and Tyler are Skaters (and why)

Why and how did you start skating?  Tara:  I pretty much started at age 6, just because I have an older sister who was put into it, my mom decided it was a good sport to put us into, to interact with other kids and get involved, so that’s what sport she decided to put us in.  Tyler:  My parents taught it so….my parents actually moved here with Mariposa, so, just shortly before….and then came here, and I don’t know, it was kind of the atmosphere. I started (skating) and (my parents) put me in hockey skates kind of to keep my options open, and I hated it.  Quit for a couple years and started again when I was about 7. It’s a lifestyle, (this career path), you get the hang around with people that do the same thing and have the same interests.
Why did you choose Dance?  I was petrified of falling! I was such a chicken and I’d always wear padded pants…dance was the thing I love to do the most, so…. I did singles right through for a really long time and then I had knee surgery and they told me I wouldn’t be able to jump for a long time, I started, that’s the point I decided just to dance, I sort of danced all along, I grew up with my first partner, we were best friends, was a positive thing to do, she was too big for pairs, so we danced.

Why mariposa?  I was looking for a dance partner, and I didn’t actually choose Mariposa, I started ice dancing really late, I was 16…when I started skating with Tyler, he was my first partner. I had a whole bunch of tryouts all over the place, and this was the best training center I’d ever been to with the best partner I’d ever tried out with.  Tyler decided he wanted to skate with me so….. /  See above
