| I remember my late Uncle Louie and his house where I lived for a short time in the early '80's. This old house had zillions of clock parts and mechanical bits & pieces all over the place. He was a clock collector and wouldnt allow me to go upstairs while living there because that was where all his priceless clocks were. Downstairs, you had to clear yourself a place on the kitchen table when you wanted to eat. I often wonder if its possible I might be channeling him! I really love making these tiles and feel they are all my babies! They are the first creative endeavor where I am using all the artistic and visual skills I learned in the past 30 years. They are great fun to make...like a puzzle. I call them Mlange des Mecanismes (mixtures of mechanical stuff.) What I like most about them is that they embody for me a juxtaposition of industrial age technology with a light, almost Victorian sense of decorative frivolity. And then theres the watch works, reminding me that time is just .slipping, slipping, slippinginto the future. (Steve Miller Band) PAST SHOWINGS In Burlington, VT: Jun 2004 Borders Bookstore Oct 2004 Cafe Piccolo Nov 2004 Liquid Energy Cafe Jan 2005 Uncommon Grounds May 2006 Mirabelles and Muddy Waters Also featured in May 17, 2006 article by Marc Awodey in "Seven Days" art magazine, "Assembly Line" |
