The Dames of Vines and Roses, an official chapter of the Red Hat Society is located in beautiful Sonoma County in the middle of the wine country of California. With approximately 35 members we are still open to new members. You might well ask what a Red Hatter is. Well to put it very simply it is a woman over 50 - or not - who enjoys life. The Red Hat Society itself is an organization based solely on disorganization! And our chapter follows suit to a tea. In other words, we meet on an irregular basis, and we have no true officers, though anyone can give themselves a title. We have no purpose and we accomplish absolutely nothing - except of course having fun. But don't think that we don't have our rules. We do, simple as they may be. If you are a woman over 50 you must wear purple with a red hat to any and all of our functions. We also have a number of "pinkies" in our group. These are women under 50 who also wish to have fun. They, however, must wear lavendar and a pink hat. That is until they reach the magical 50!And where on earth did this whole idea originate? Well it actually started with a poem by Jenny Joseph entitled Warning. But then one glorious woman took it one step further when she invited a friend to tea...and gave her a red hat to wear! You can read more about our Queen Mother and the whole disorganization at the Red Hat Society webpage.
