If you're finding a place to hold a BBQ, go fishing or just take a hike these links will give you the entire list near City Center.

Favourite Moutain Biking trails
UBC- a good beginners tail with a few technical sections near the beach. A popular trail for mountain bikers is Salish. Take this route from the South East entrance on Marine Dr. and it'll take you all the way down to Jericho Beach. Beware of hikers and people horseback riding.
Everette Crawly Park- a hidden historic location formerly used as a hang gliding training site. A fairly small park but has a fair share of hills and streams for your dirt happy sport. This park is located Near
Boundary round South of 49th and above Marine Dr. Between the park and Marine Dr. was what used to be a garbage dump site for city of Vancouver. Now overgrown with bushes and tress I assure you there's no smell of trash!
Seymour mountain- if you ever feel courageous and have time to spare to get lost this is a excellent place for a taste of hardcore mountain biking terrain. There are a few place to enter along the highway up the mountain but if you feel like a nice cruise along a quiet paved road.

Restoration Dam service Road .  With 11km of semi hilly asphalt and multiple offroad entrances also this is a good compromise if some friend decide to take it easy. At the end of the 11km journey is...the Dam. The road is also shared by joggers and rollerbladers. Approximate time to and from the Dam is 1hr on bike.
Basically anywhere with a campfire sign on the maps is a good location for a BBQ. But if you're interested here's a description of the ones I've been to.
Buntzen Lake Park- a very popular location NE of Vancouver's city center. This park on weekends is jam packed so ensure yourself a parking space and picnic table by going early. Canoe rentals fishing and a swimming are all available activities. Also there is a hiking trail that follows the skirt of the lake.
Burnaby Barnet park- right next to the fraser arms inlet is a  place for fishing too, although the only time I've tried caught nothing.  There's no beachsand in this area but an abundant amount of picnic benches and shrubery. This is a nice quiet place since it's not always packed with people.
Burnaby Fraser Foreshore Park- situates beside the Fraser River in South Burnaby.
Also another mildly popular location so finding a BBQ spot shouldn't be a problem. Large grass fields expands the park's size with picnic tables located near the river. Parking lot however is tad small but space can be found close by
Diamond Head Park- about an hour away from Vancouver Downtown. This park can be found taking the Sea to Sky highway towards Whistler. There are two mirror glazed lakes near the top of the mountain where you can swim in one and drink from the other. The view is breathtaking and for experienced  hikers, the trail past the lakes lead into the unexplored territory as after our cycling up the mountain was a draining workout already. The trail towards the lake consists mostly of loose gravel. During the summer it is a very dry and a somewhat dusty path. Biking up the trail actually took longer than the hiking due to the loose traction. There is a cabin upabove for an overnite pitstop for those verturing further into the north. This is a definite must hike
for there are beautiful wildflowers paved along the hiking path. Set aside approx. 2hrs for the hike up to the lakes. You will not be dissapointed.
