This page has been long overdue for a facelift! The facts - my name is Melanie, "Mel" to most people besides the immediate family (god knows why)and spelt "Melaine" for the past 20 years by my grandmother. *g* I'm 20 years old, and just finished my 1st year in the Veterinarian Technician Program at Ridgetown College.

Horses are my "drugs" as my friends put it. They've always been a part of my life and I hope they will always continue to be. My immediate family is, or "was", shall I say, non-horsey, so I was a surprise with this immediate interest of mine which developed before I could even talk. Mom claims I'd be pointing out all the horses in my carseat as we traveled the country side. Once I began talking it became a BIG nuisance with nearly every word out of my mouth beginning with "horse".

When I was 5, and still very much horse crazy, my mom decided to throw me into some lessons. The barn was called Ramey Quarter Horses and it was there where my passion grew and my parent's wallets drained. I was at the barn taking weekly lessons for nearly 8 years when I received my first horse at 12 years old. "Murry" was a stout, little AQHA mare, my greatest friend during those teenage years. Since, I've increased my herd and let my old friend go after acquiring a new horse. Currently, I have two horses, the sweet and elegant Diva, and...THE brat, Dallas.

Of course horses aren't my whole life - though damn near close! If I'm not in a saddle I can be found at the malls (when I absolutely NEED clothes!), browsing the Tack and Western Wear Stores, behind the big screen at the theatres, and scanning the aisles with the boys at TSC or Canadian Tire. Being a country girl, I'm also quite partial to big, powerful trucks!! Our current farm truck (though everyone refers to her as mine), is a '97 Ford 3/4 ton diesel, 4x4. She takes me anywhere I want to go and I love hitting the roads with trailer in tow. And I can't forget my ol' "girl", a '93 F-150.

My most memorable trip would have to be in '98 when my aunt and I headed to Calgary, Alberta. While there, we checked out the Calgary Stampede which was awesome and I encourage everyone to check it out if they get the chance. Horses, trucks and cowboys - what more can you want?! The North Americans were on as well at Spruce Meadows which gave me the chance to FINALLY check out the place. I assure you, it IS as large and impressive as seen on tv and the horses are drop dead gorgeous! Someday I hope to return.

I finally broke down and bought myself a truck. Well, actually, I was *forced* if I wanted to come home while at college. She's a '93 F-150. She can't pull my trailer but she gets me places. ;)
