KAREN FAIRGATE

KAREN COOPER FAIRGATE MACKENZIE

(MICHELE LEE):

SID�s widow and MACK MACKENZIE�s wife. Born in NEW YORK, she studied in PHILADELPHIA, where she met her husband-to-be SID, then married with SUSAN. After his divorce, they got married and moved to KNOTS LANDING. Mother of DIANA, ERIC and MICHAEL, she then adopted MEG, her best friend and neighbor LAURA�s baby.

His marriage to MACK meant a new beginning, though her daughter DIANA took awhile to accept her mother�s second husband. KAREN always held a fiery and initially disguised feud with her sister-in-law ABBY, whose principles were opposite hers. KAREN philosophy was based on a constant concern about improving his family and neighbor�s way of life, therefore she was nicknamed �Pollyanna�.

VAL�s closest friend, she transmitted her her own worries about environment and went on to run KNOTS LANDING MOTORS when her husband died. Later on, she became a partner at the LOTUS POINT resort, along with GARY, ABBY and LAURA, and got a job in a TV talk show called OPEN MIKE. MICHELE LEE also appeared in the REUNION mini-series filmed in 1998. Besides that, KAREN was played in several flashbacks by the actress LIANE CURTIS.




SID FAIRGATE

WILLIAM SIDNEY FAIRGATE

(DON MURRAY):

Neighbor, employer and friend of the EWINGS� in KNOTS LANDING, KAREN�s husband and father of her children and ANNE, born from her previous wife SUSAN. Frustrated rac pilot and owner of a used car company, he was ABBY�s older brother, and felt very bonded to her, in spite of their differences.

His biggest hobbies were the antic cars and classic music, though his family always came in first place. SID was well-known for his noble, gentle personality and was the one who helped GARY the most when he arrived, as he offered him a salesman job. His refusal to let his strictly legal ways go, caused him a lot of problems and death too, as some stolen-parts dealers got him killed.

SID died during the course of an operation to solve his paralysis out, a consequence of the car accident. This character was performed in flashbacks by JACK TATE.




ABBY CUNNINGHAM

ABIGAIL FAIRGATE CUNNINGHAM EWING SCOTT SUMNER

(DONNA MILLS):

An orphan since she was two years old, both brother and sister came from a humble family. All through the series, she married other men, among them GARY EWING. Nevertheless, she had her only children, OLIVIA and BRIAN, with her first husband JEFF CUNNINGHAM, whom she had just divorced when she entered the show. She stayed in one of the houses next to his brother�s and began to work as an accountant at KL MOTORS.

Not long later, she became independent and started a successful career as a ruthless executive, using everybody to get her way. Meanwhile, her daughter hooked on drugs and GARY almost went off the wagon again, as VAL was trying to fit in a life without GARY. But ABBY eventually learnt that �first Mrs. EWING never goes away".

Most of her relationships implied a commercial reward, especially his marriages to GARY, GREG SUMNER and CHARLES SCOTT III, her very first love, whom she deeply got even of years later. ABBY�s character ended up leaving to JAPAN with her son BRIAN, though she would return for both the last episode and the mini-series. ABBY was played in a few youth scenes by actress CYNTHIA BAIN.
