2-17-09 This dog has crawled out through a hole in the fence. He has what looks like a cable around his neck, and is shivering. Not sure he could get into his box when he was in the pen. Tether seems to be fastened outside the fence. No one was home at the time. I call this one, Red Dog, for obvious reasons.

2-28-09 Red Dog's box. Notice there are no boards around the bottom, and cracks between the others, which makes for a pretty breezy bed when the cold winter wind is blowing. It doesn't take any wind at all to create a draft, which can lead to pneumonia. I call this a non-shelter.

3-11-09 I heard Red Dog barking at me with a strangled sound, and no wonder. He has climbed out of the pen with barely enough chain to get all four feet on the ground. There is a conglomeration of stuff around his neck, including the red, which may be binder twine.

3-03-09 Four of Star's puppies from last summer have been put in this pen where the Red Pup spent many months. He now runs loose. The spotted pup found a way to climb out, first on the trash can, then on the non-shelter, over the fence and onto the tall backless box. He took a few minutes to work up the courage to jump, and made it to the ground okay. Notice the amount of trash in the pen. The box is merely a frame with various things leaning on it to create the illusion of shelter. The red pup at the left is the one with the prick ears that I call RPM. He's tied where Brownie spent the winter.

3-03-09 This is Star, barking at a roadgrader. She's standing on her box with her front feet on the fence between her and the light yellow male. Seconds before I snapped the photo, she had one hind foot on the fence, also. I've seen her trying to climb into the next pen, but I don't know if she's ever made it. Not sure she has enough chain. Seems dangerous.

3-14-09 "The kennel," taken from the road. At left, the 6X8 chain link pen is now covered with several things, including the deflated pool that used to be on the Yorkie pen, and then on the rabbit pen. Next is Star, lying on her roof, as usual. Then RPM, Red Pup's brother, and Red Pup's former pen with the trash can and non-shelter. This is where two of Star's 2008 puppies are now. Dogs are constantly being shuffled around.

3-14-09 This is Yellow Dog. And this is his world. He pretty much lives on top of that box, another non-shelter, with no roofing. The top consists of boards, and one is missing now. You can see the gap, in the photo above taken on March 3rd. This is the dog that was in the fight on January 27th. See the curly tether hanging from the tree.
