| February 6, 2009 - Had to get meds at two vet clinics today. Gave my URL both places, including Dr. Heilman, who I'm told has something to do with the dog pound. He says he'll look at it. I wonder what will happen now. Still a lot of work to do on it. February 8, 2009 - Working hard on website; ignoring distractions from next door. Too disturbing anyway. I'm speculating that soon Star's puppies will be in the Yorkie pen, Red will be somewhere else, Puppy Mama's will be in the rabbit pen, Creamy will have puppies, followed by Star. We shall see. February 9, 2009 - No work today. I go downstairs to rotate dogs and see the Mrs. in her back yard. Red is tied outside the Yorkie pen. When I get back upstairs I grab the binocs. Guess what! Puppies in the pen! I get a good look at the black and tan's face - spitting image of Bubblegum! I guess he won the stud lottery that time. February 10, 2009 - Raining. Storms maybe tomorrow. I wonder if Red Dog has shelter. He's still wearing a harness, but I don't see a collar now. No puppies in the pen. They must have gone back to the rabbit pen. February 12, 2009 - We've had high winds all night. Power went off at 11 PM and still off this morning. Red Dog's pen is almost bereft of coverings and the truck bed liner has blown over to the other side of the pen. Looks like it might have flipped. One of the red pups is running loose. Star tried to hang herself off the back end of her box to get to him. Then she tried to climb into the pen with the yellow dog. She definitely doesn't have enough rope to do that. She probably would have hung herself, but she got back down. Must be in heat. Yesterday, as I drove by, I saw the Yellow Dog on top of his box, looking very unthrifty and miserable. He squints his eyes, his coat is scruffy, and he's thin. Probably all those worms. I should have got him when I had a chance, but I'm overburdened as it is. There's a red pup tied to the tall box where Bubblegum was last week. I don't know where Bubblegum is now. He hasn't used his own box all winter. I haven't seen him in my yard lately. The red pup that's running loose has had a close call with Brownie. First they were standing close together and Brownie was looking pretty tense. Then the pup went into the pen and sniffed around by the dog house. Then he actualy went into the dog house and Brownie stood in the doorway with his head inside, tail barely moving. The pup was cornered. Brownie finally let him out. Next, the red pup walked over to the corner of the pen where the fence goes all the way down, and he had nowhere to go, as Brownie had him cornered again. Brownie stood there with his head over the other dog's neck, asserting dominance. They stood there awhile, the pup submitting, but Brownie not wanting to back away. Then Brownie put his front feet over the pup's shoulders and they stood there for what seemed like quite awhile. Red Pup was afraid to move, and it's a good thing he didn't. After awhile, he squiggled out of that predicument and moved to a better position for getting out of the pen. There was a little more drama before he finally got out of there. Another close one! February 16, 2009 - Red Dog is outside of his pen again this morning. When I'm outside taking care of downstairs dogs, I see the Mrs. in her back yard. She's upset with Red, and then she notices me. Glances over, and then raises her voice, as if to demonstrate that she's in charge, and kicks at the dog. If she wants him to stay in the pen, why doesn't she fix the fence? A red pup is loose. February 17, 2009 - I'm in the side dog yard. Red Dog is in the Yorkie pen. Red Pup is loose. They're standing there barking at me. Looks like Red won the stud lottery that time. They sure look alike! Later, Red Pup comes over to my house and causes a commotion. Gone before I can get out with my camera. Evening, and I see Red Dog outside the pen. Tether is something heavy and ragged and short. He crawls through the fence, with difficulty, and stands inside. Looks like he's eating something, and that he can't go any farther into the pen. So he crawls back out and sits there, all hunched up and cold. I see a thin red thing around his neck. No collar or halter now. I'm worried he'll stangle himself with that thing, whatever it is. Looks like nobody home. He's going to have a cold miserable night. I get a photo of him. February 23, 2009 - Red Pup loose. As I drive by, I see him and his brother together beside the tall box with no back in it. The other pup has prick ears like Star's. There's no getting these two mixed up! February 26, 2009 - Red pup with ears like Star's is inside Brownie's pen, in the corner where the fence is intact. He doesn't seem to know how to get back out. No sign of Brownie. In the next pen, where the other red pup was, there are four puppies, the three I've seen before and one more, a black and tan. The Red Pup has been running loose for days, with no collar. The box must be a real wreck because there's plywood leaning against the west side, and a plastic trash can lying against the north. I don't know where the door is. There isn't much room in the pen for one dog, let alone four. I think they aren't in the Yorkie pen because Red is too much of a problem for the Mrs. to handle. She has no place to put him. With the dead weeds thinning out and the coverings blown away, I can see Red's box has no boards around the bottom 12". Another non-shelter. February 27, 2009 - Red Pup still loose; watched me drive by. Star trying to get into the next pen again, with the yellow male. Shorty standing outside the 6X8' pen. On my way by, I see Bubblegum. It looks like he's tied to his old box now. On my way home, I see him sitting by a tree looking stressed. Probably can't get to the box. Wet and cold. He'll be stuck there a long time, as the neighbors won't be home for hours, and he's behind the pens where they won't be able to see him. Bedtime and there's pandemonium. I'm in the front (middle) dog yard when I see Red Pup walking along the side yard fence. Then I see a black and tan farther up the slope. It's dark and I can't tell if it's Bubblegum or Shorty. They fade into the night, maybe into my back yard. No one home? February 28, 2009 - This morning I hear a racket. The Mrs. is feeding early. I can see the yellow male in his pen, and it looks like Star is in with him, but it's an optical illusion. She's in her own pen, but he's interested. He's on a tether. Looks like cable or chain around his neck. Red Pup and red pup M (M stands for prick ears) are playing beside the dog house. Red Pup running loose. He sure has a big belly. Chloe is eating off the ground. I'm sure her owner supplied her with bowls. Strange how her belongings have a way of ending up with one of the other dogs. She still doesn't have her nice chain. The vintage lavendar plastic bowl that I donated to the Everal's garage sale is still lying upside down in Brownie's pen. When I go to Coshocton, I see Brownie in the trees by Arnold's field. I wondered where he was. It looks like he's tied at or near Bubblegum's box. Maybe that's who I saw there yesterday. Looks like they have new straw today. On the way home, I see that Brownie is tied near a plastic dog house like the one that's been in one of the pens. I wonder if they have two of those now. Things have been pretty quiet in the tool shed. What's up with Puppy Mama and her brood? And where is Creamy? I take a picture of Red's dog box. |
