| Winter 2008 - Buster's box gets a new tenant for a couple of days. One of the yellow dogs. It's bitter cold tonight and I hear him yipping. Probably tangled in the trees and can't get into the box. He barks for awhile and then gets quiet. Pretty soon he's at it again. I'm awakened many times during the night. No one comes to help him. The next day, he's moved back to the front yard. I wonder what that was all about. I don't see the spotted puppy any more. I can see the brown ones in the Yorkie pen. It's pretty well covered with dog food bags, a deflated wading pool, boards, etc. I don't see Chubby's waving plume of a tail there either. I don't know where he is, or if he's even alive. Where is the black and tan puppy? There must be some in the rabbit pen. Awful! Yellow Dog spends most of his time on top of his box. I don't think it has any roofing on it. On rainy days, he has no shelter to speak of. Sometimes he stays out in the rain. There are skids all over the place from the pallet pens. Not only do these dogs have to live on tethers, but they have all kinds of obstacles to restrict their movements and get injured on. The spotted dog comes over a lot. His cable is no good. I take a picture of him sitting under the table in front of Bernie's pen. It's spitting snow showers. He has two or more pieces of cable hanging from his collar. The black and tan male comes over, too. He's camera shy. March 2008 - Chubby found dead on the ground in the chain link pen. The spotted puppy has made a reappearance! He's tied to the trees where Buster was. The plastic dog house is there. I wonder where he's been all this time. He takes the dog house apart. I see the Mrs. walking a black and tan pup down the road towards the church. I don't see them come back. Strange. April 7, 2008 - Spotted pup is tied to fence in front yard near west end of trailer. The roof of the plastic dog house is on the ground by the fence, propped up on one end with a board, so that he can get under it, I suppose. It only serves to create a drafty wet bed where he could get pneumonia if he actually used it. I see him standing on the roof, trying to climb over the fence. I'm worried he will hang himself, so I watch until he's safely on the other side. Very little rope to spare. I wonder how long he'll be stuck there. April 8, 2008 - I'm in front dog yard when I see Spotted Pup standing on roof again, trying to get over fence. He makes it up onto the fence, but instead of jumping down, he lies down on the sagging chain link. I run in for my camera and when I get back, he's still there. Amazing! I get a good photo, and he takes a nap! April 12, 2008 - Spotted pup moved to back yard with his roof, next to TV dish post. He's wet and muddy and his rope is a disaster. I get a photo of him sleeping on the roof. I keep remembering how happy he was last fall when he and two littermates escaped from the Yorkie pen and went on their great adventure. His life is down the toilet now! One of the brown pups is trying to climb out of the Yorkie pen. I don't know if he's on a tether or not. I get a photo. The other brown pup is tied to a skid in the front yard. No shelter. April 15, 2008 - I get a photo of the spotted dog in my back yard. He's here two or three times this week. April 17, 2008 - Evening, and Snoopdog is using middle dog yard. I'm ready to relax with TV. Shelly calls. I happen to look down there and see two dogs in the yard. Spotted dog is in with Snoopdog! I run down and get my dog in. Decide it's too dark to take a photo. I make a noose with a leash, and put it over his neck. Get him out through the two gates and turn him loose. April 18, 2008 - I see the Mrs. out in her back yard, so I go tell her what happened. She doesn't think he'd fight with my dog because he's been beat up on before. She says she'll get a chain for him. I tell her I have to work tomorrow, and I don't want him getting in with my old guy, Liver. Spotted dog's name is Grumpy. I ask about Annie and she says she's in the trailer. She says she came over to feed her one night and Annie was lying on the ground shivering, so she took her home and kept her in the trailer all winter. I wonder why I haven't seen her out to pee all this time. I ask about her leg. She says it's okay, but the dog isn't doing very good. I ask about Chubby, and she says he died in March. No details about that. We talk about a number of things and it seems we're okay. I go work on my fence to prevent any more climbings. Still worried about leaving Liver out tomorrow. I take a look over there later, and I see the spotted dog on a chain. April 19, 2008 - Before leaving for work, I check on the spotted dog. She didn't get him a new chain! She's switched him and Chloe! He's on her chain at her box, and she's on his worn-out cable at his box! Now Chloe can get loose! What's wrong with that woman?!!! Seven PM, raining off and on, and I hear a commotion. Chloe is loose in the yard. It's Saturday. Nobody home. I'm so mad at that woman! Chloe's owner needs to know about this! He'd be heartbroken if anything happened to her. He bought that chain so she'd be safe. I can't get ahold of anyone - phone numbers I have are no good! I try to get the dog, but she runs back into the yard. It's getting dark. I get a good number for her owner, but no answer. Dog back on road. I go after her and she comes to me. She's wearing a choker chain!!!! Now I'm really seething! I bring her home and put her in Snoop's pen. Phone rings and I'm talking to a friend for the next two hours. I'm downstairs doing bedtime chores when I hear pounding. Must be the Mrs. at the door! She sounds mad. I go out to bring Reba in, and there's the Mrs. standing at the gate with a rope in her hand yelling "That's not your dog!" and pointing at Chloe. Yikes! What's wrong with her? She's not even asking what happened, or thanking me for helping out. In fact, she's so busy yelling accusations about all kinds of things, that she won't let me get a word in edgewise. Am I letting this madwoman in? I guess not! That dog isn't going anywhere until her owner knows exactly how she's being treated. I don't want her death on my conscience. Finally the Mrs. walks away, after threatening to bring the sheriff in the morning. I call a friend on the department, and he doesn't seem to think that would be a problem. I call her owner and explain the whole situation, and he's upset about the chain, and the collar, stating that he'd bought Chloe several nylon buckle collars. I leave him with an offer to leave the dog here, but I don't think he will. April 20, 2008 - Raining again. Neighbors at Sunday School. After noon when son-in-law brings Chloe's owner to get her. Nothing I can do. I get a couple of pictures of her. I see the spotted pup under the trees in the rain. He's there all day, unable to get to dog house. I get a picture of him, too. His cable is tied to a sapling about four feet above ground, then goes across to another sapling and winds around and around it down to the dog's collar. He just sits there by the little tree, quietly in the rain, all day. And all night. The next morning he tries to reach a plastic jug by his house. He pulls it over and it's empty. Unk date - Spotted pup moved to front yard, Grumpy's box. Grumpy still at Chloe's box. No sign of Chloe since the blowup. They seem to have her hidden away. April 27, 2008 - Grumpy and spotted pup seem to be tangled in trees. Noon, Mrs. feeding in her church clothes. Gets Grumpy free. Pup too lively. She drags him back up the hill to the trees where he was before. Grumpy on his hind feet trying to eat dog food that's on the roof of the box. I go away for a few hours. Come home and see spotted pup tangled in trees. Can't reach box or water, if there is any. Looks like chain around his neck. No one home. April 28, 2008 - Spotted pup still can't reach box. Rained last night. I hear barking, see tails wagging. Maybe getting fed? I feed mine and take another look. Spotted pup has given up - sleeping on ground in front of box. Can't get into it. Brown pup in front yard sitting in the rain. May be a storm later. Cold tonight. These dogs will be wet and cold all night. No matter what else they're doing, they have to stop and scratch. Chloe left a lot of fleas in Snoop's box when she was here. April 29, 2008 - I get a photo of the spotted pup lying on the muddy ground, snubbed to the tree. Chain looks like it's pulled up tight, but not in choking mode. Picture of misery. When will his hell be over? April 30, 2008 - Spotted dog in my yard again. |
