HELP THESE DOGS

March 15, 2009 - Lots of action next door this morning.  It's Sunday.  Mrs. probably at church.  I'll get a photo of Red Dog's miserable box.  While upstairs, I check the other dogs and see the yellow male on Star's dog house with her, so I get a shot of that.  He's the one who never gets out.  Seems he might be highly motivated today.

A car drives in.  I run upstairs to see what's happening with Star and her boyfriend.  They're both on tethers, and the yellow male is now in Star's pen.  Now he's climbing out onto the dog house again.  The Mrs. isn't in any hurry to take care of that problem.

Noon, and the Mrs. is finally out there feeding, in her church clothes.  Probably leaving again.  She's walking around dumping food on the ground.  Red Pup gets too close to Red Pup M, (I'll just call that one RPM) and gets attacked.  RPM's food has been dumped into a bowl, but his cable is really short, and he's straining for all he's worth.  The Mrs. walks by several times, but pays no attention to him.  Seems pretty cruel to put food where the dog can barely reach it.

Black and tan puppies are out.  Mrs. using cooler to haul water now.  Uses a yellow jug to pour water into other yellow jugs.  RPM is in the pen next to his, where the puppies were for a few days.  Trying to reach something.  Gives up and crawls out through a hole in the corner.  Cable seems even shorter now.

Mr. comes out and stands by the car waiting for the Mrs. to finish up.  Little grandaughter is there, too.  The Mrs. is trying to catch the puppies.  Carrying food and calling "lubba lubba lubba," or whatever.  Yellow male is still in Star's pen.  Star is eating food on the roof.  Mrs. can't catch puppies.  Grandaughter in car now.  Wait!  What's this?  Star is in her pen and there is a tail wagging around like crazy.  Looks like they're getting down to business!

The Mrs. discovers the action and tries to get the male out of the pen.  She's using whatever she can grab to swing at him, and pulling on his tether.  The Mr. just stands there shaking his head and looking at the ground.  Finally he walks over and observes.   After using what looks like an eight foot tree limb, the Mrs. manages to pull the dog over the fence by his rope.  Now she grabs a smaller switch and bangs it on his dog house, like that will convince him to stay there.  Are they really going to do nothing to prevent a repeat performance?  Star has climbed back onto the roof.  She gets shoved into her pen.

Mrs. gets into the car and they drive away!  The yellow male has climbed back into Star's pen and then onto the box.  He wants her bad, but his rope is too short.  I go down to the far front dog yard after putting my girls back in their pens, to see what everyone is barking at next door.  OMG!  He's got lucky again, and there I am without my camera!

It wasn't a successful attempt.  One puppy still loose, barking at me.  Dog barking in shed. I work on log for awhile and go back to check.  The dogs are in the pen and they're DOING THE DEED!  That yellow dog has finally WON THE STUD LOTTERY!

Almost dark, I hear the Mrs.' voice.  She's doing something at the pen.  Then I see her haul Star up onto the box, and try to hoist her over the fence into the male's pen!  She drops her, and Star hurts her front leg.  Can't put weight on it.  She kicks Red Pup and RPM away, opens the front of the pen and shoves Star in.  Ties her to the fence.

Now she fastens the yellow male's tether to the other side of Star's pen and leaves them that way.  The male is trying to climb back into his own pen.  RPM is trying to get into the pen from the other side.  What a nightmare!

March 16, 2009 - The insanity continues.  It's chaos today!  Mrs. already in yard when I get up, puttering around the pens.  Yellow male still trying to get over the fence into pen with Star.  The red pups acting subdued.  Looks like something may have happened earlier.  Maybe Star got out, and the Mrs. caught them.

She's doing something with Yellow Dog's tether.  When she comes back, Red Pup gives her a wide berth.  RPM is in his box.  She pulls him out, pats him on the head, he slinks back into the box.  I never see her giving affection to the dogs.  Something definitely strange going on.

Yellow male on top of Star's dog box.  Next time I check, I see a yellow male outside the pen.  Go for camera, and he's gone!  Puzzling.  Then I see a yellow male in the last pen, where Red Pup spent the winter, and where the puppies were last week when the spotted one climbed out.

Yellow male clambors out and runs across yard, Mrs. hot on his heels.  She carries him back and dumps him over the fence.  He keeps trying to get out; she keeps knocking him back in.  Is she going to stand there all day doing that?  But, wait!  It isn't Star's beau after all...it's Yellow Dog!  She has taken him from his box and put him in that little pen!

Now the Mrs. is pulling stuff out of the pen; first the trash can, into which she puts the plastic planter, dog food bags, boards, pieces of whatever was laying on top of the box, which turns out to be nothing but a frame with plywood leaning against one or two sides.  Yellow Dog is tethered now.  He climbs onto the box and loses his balance; tether around the board.  Mrs. hauls him up out of there and he goes sprawling.

Later I take another look.  OMG!  She's moved Chloe to Yellow Dog's old box!  I'm furious!  I'll get a photo of that and show it to Chloe's owner.  Now the Mrs. is looking at Chloe's nice dog house and at the Red Pup.  She tries to get ahold of him, but he won't let her.  Next time I look, she's carrying the black and tan puppy to the tool shed.  Where is Puppy Mama and her puppies???

Next time I check on the insanity, the spotted puppy is in the pen with Star.  I hope it's a female!  Those pups are at least six months old by now.  Star chastens the pup, and when I look a little later, it's in with Yellow Dog!  Now I'm hoping it's a male!  I almost get a picture of Yellow Dog on the fence, straining to get out.

A little later I see that Star has got out of the pen and RPM seems about to win today's stud lottery.  No sign of the Mrs.  Yellow male is frantic.  RPM climbs aboard; Star snaps at yellow male; RPM thinks he's in jeopardy; RPM and Star have a big fight.  Looks like tangled tethers.  Another fight.  Then RPM is at Yellow Dog's pen and those two are fighting through the fence.  A few minutes later they're at it again.

The Mrs. finally comes out.  Later I see another puppy in with Yellow Dog and the spotted one.  And Chloe is back at her own dog house.  Yay!  Then a ruckus, and the Mrs. is flinging food.  Yellow male is having a hard time getting to his, which has been dumped on top of the dog box.  She comes back and tosses more in for the puppies and bonks Yellow Dog on the head for trying to eat it.

Next, she puts a piece of particle board on the frame in the pen, giving the illusion of a roof.  Yellow Dog sacks out on it.  He's worn himself out!  When I leave for work, he's back at his old box again.  What a relief, even if it doesn't have any roofing!   When I come home for break and feed my dogs, there's a lot of racket over there.  I don't look.

I get home after eight, and it looks like no one is home over there.  I hear an awful ruckus.  Sounds like fighting.  Great!  Now they can kill each other and hang themselves.  I think about calling the sheriff, but I don't.  Very disturbing!

March 17, 2009
- I finish up my film so I can get two rolls developed today.  As I drive by, I see the two spotted males, on very short cables, trying to fight.  I hope nothing breaks!

March 18, 2009 - The Red Pup is running around on the road.  One time he's across from my driveway.  Another, he's across from the neighbor's eating something.

March 19, 2009 - Nice day.  My cat wants out.  Next thing I know, the neighbor's cat has her pinned down, and I have to chase it away.  SadieRene heads for the house.  What a shame she spends such a nice day in the house.

March 20, 2009 - Red Pup and the b&t puppy are on the road.

March 21, 2009 - B&t puppy (I'll call her Tippy - she has a white tip on her tail) comes over with a yellow cat.  She sees me and runs home, but I get a picture of the cat outside my garage, waiting for a chance at the cat food.  I get a phone call, and there's a sudden commotion so that I can't hear.  I grab the camera and go out; two dogs in my building.  We hang up.  They come out and there's three of them.

I get a photo of three butts leaping over my trash pile.  Looks like Red Pup, Tippy, and a yellow dog.  I go down to the building, but they're long gone.  I run up to the bedroom to see who the yellow dog is, and don't see any of the loose ones.  I hear the Mrs. voice doing the lubba lubba lubba thing.  Both yellow males are confined.  Unsolved mystery.

My cats are done eating, so I put the water dish on top of the food dish to keep the neighbor's cats from eating.  Later I find the bowl tipped, food all gone, and water all over the floor.  Cat or dog?

March 22, 2009 - Tippy in front yard, driveway; goes back and forth along the front of dog yard and building.

March 24, 2009 - Sunny day.  I'm in the side yard with a good view of Red Dog's box.  What I thought was a side board missing at the top is actually about a third of the roof!  There are boards lying across the top with no roofing.  The truck bed liner channels the water right down into the box.

March 25, 2009 -
Raining.  Red's roof hasn't been fixed.  I get a good photo of it.

March 28, 2009
- Twinkle having a cow in the bay window.  I check it out.  Tippy comes out of the building and poops by the compost pile.  Then Red Pup comes out of the building and they leave as I come out with camera.  I hear the Mrs. calling lubba lubba lubba.  I go into the building and photograph the pile of poop on the floor that was left a few days ago.

While I'm trying to get a photo of the new pile outside, showing roundworms, I see a movement behind the brush.  The dogs have come back and given me a wide berth.  They come into the driveway and bark at me like I'm the intruder.  So much for lubba lubba lubba.

They come around me and up to the building, still barking; then leave by way of the path they and the cats have worn along the side of the building and my front dog fence.  And it's only 8:30 AM!  What's next on the agenda?

March 29, 2009 - Shorty is loose.  Haven't seen him for awhile.  He's making the rounds; in a cluster with the red pups, then trying to mount Chloe (she's spayed,) then on a collision course with Yellow Dog.  He passes him by.  Lots of barking as he approaches dogs behind the pens.  Evening, and my dogs alert me; Tippy is walking up the drive to my garage.  After dark I hear awful sounds next door, like fighting.  I hope not.  Nothing I can do

March 31, 2009 - Puppies in the end pen again.  There was a big hole in the fence yesterday.  Another pile of poop in my back yard.  I think I'll gather up all the piles and dump them over the fence where they belong.
