86 John George WEIS Sr., b. _____?, d. Feb 1833, Washington Co., MD, was probably the s/o John George and Eva Catharina (HEYSER) WEIS of Hagerstown Co., MD, m. (87) Elizabeth _____?. John is listed as a blacksmith in Hagerstown, Washington Co. in from 1805 to 1815. On 11 Sep 1807, John WEIS, blacksmith, agreed with other blacksmiths in Hagerstown to raise the price of their work. In 1808, he was a member of the Fire Company in Hagerstown. In 1800, George had 1 male 0-10 (?), 1 male 16-36 (?), 1 male 26-45 (John George), 2 females 0-10 (Elizabeth, Ann Marie), 2 females 16-26 (Elizabeth, and ?), living in Hagerstown, 1810, in Hagerstown, he had 1 male 10-16 (Daniel?), 3 males 16-26 (Samuel, John, and George?), 1 male 45 and up (John George), 1 female 10-16 (Ann Marie?), 1 female 16-26 (Elizabeth), 1 female 26-45 (?), 1 female 45 and up (Elizabeth, his wife), and 4 slaves. In 1820, he had 1 male 16-26(?), 1 male 45 and up (John George), 1 female 45 and up (Ellizabeth his wife), 1 male slave 0-14, 1 male slave 14-26, 1 female salve 0-14, 1 female slave 14-26, 1 female 45 and up, and 1 free black male 45 ane up). John George and his sons were blacksmiths and carpenters in Hagerstown, and the slaves were most likely engaged in these occupations. His will was written in Jan 1833, and probated in Hagerstown on 14 Feb 1833. He owned a house and lot in Shepherdstown, Jefferson Co., WV, which he left to his wife. He also names his sons and his two daughters and their husbands in the will. The executors were sons, John and George, and son-in-law James REESIDE. The witnesses were John and Thomas Ringer, and Christian Bolinger. One of the John Weis' was an engineman on Fire Engine #2, 1 Feb 1817. 86.1 John WEIS (John George Jr.?) b. 1745-1794, MD. In 1820 John was a blacksmith living in the 3rd. Election District, Washington  Co., MD. In his household he had 3 males 0-10 (?), 1 male 10-16 (?), 1 male 26-45 (?), 1 female 0-10 (?), 1 female 10-16 (/), and 1 female 26-45 (?), 1 not naturalized, and 2 in manufacturing. On 17 Apr 1822, John Jr., was a charter member of the first Hagerstown Hose Company. He was part of a group that formed the 'Home League' to deter people to drop their preferences for forgein maunufactured goods. In 1840 and 1848, he was a Justice of Peace in Wasshington Co.
