42-Albert HUMRICHOUSE, b. 5 May 1787 (gravestone 25 May 1786), Philadelphia, PA, s/o Peter and Mary M. (HANDLEMAN?) HUMRICHOUSE, d. 12 Jun 1864, Shepherdstown, Jefferson Co., WV, m. 26 Mar 1811, Washington Co., MD, to (43) Elizabeth WEIS, b. 13 Dec 1792, Washington Co.,  d. 8 Feb 1847, Shepherdstown, VA, d/o John George and Catherine (HEYSER) WEIS. They are buried in the Lutheran Cemetery in Shepherdstown, WV. In 1833, Albert HUMRICHOUSE began operation of a stage line that ran between Shepherdstown, Charles Town, and Winchester, then to Romey, Hampshire Co., VA. Another source states this line ran to the Ohio River, but probably not HUMRICHOUSE'S line. On one of the trips from Winchester, VA, to Shepherdstown, the stage was involved in an accident, that killed the driver, Albert Post HUMRICHOUSE, s/o of Albert and Elizabeth. A passenger on this stage, was Henry Clay, who was on his way from Kentucky to Washington. He later wrote a letter of condolence to the parents of the driver. In 1839 Albert was a boatman on the Potomac River and the C&O Canal for the Packett Company. During the Civil War, Albert HUMRICHOUSE opened the Confederate Post Office in Shepherdstown. Daniel S. Rentch was appointed Post Master, but the office closed after a year, due to harassment from federal troops who took over the town. In 1860 Albert had in his household Margt C. WHITE age 39, b. VA, Benjamin P. WHITE age 18, b. AR, a clerk, Henry J. WHITE age 12, b. Ar, Elizabeth WHITE age 9, b. AR. (O12, FH9, MDWAB1, 6 p528, WVBEB9, WVJE6, 9-10, 12-13, WVJEB1, 4)

42.2-Albert Post HUMRICHOUSE, b. 12 Mar 1814,d. 6 Jul 1834. Albert was a driver for his father's stagecoach line. He was killed in a stagecoach accident near Brucetown, Frederick Co., VA, hauling Henry Clay, traveling from Kentucky to Washington. Clay wrote a letter of sympathy to the parents. Albert is buried in the Lutheran Cemetery, Shepherdstown, WV. (FH9, WVJE4)

42.3-Elizabeth Augusta HUMRICHOUSE, b. 1 Sep 1817, m. 15 Dec 1841, Rev. Henry BISHOP. (FH9) Children:

42.5-Margaret Catherine HUMRICHOUSE, b. 30 Aug 1818, m. 1st. James W. PENDLETON; m. 2nd. Franklin H. WHITE. With her first husband, they went west, probably Arkansas, where her children were born. After his death, she m. Franklin WHITE, probably in Arkansas, and had a son Henry WHITE, and and daughter Elizabeth. Henry WHITE, drowned in the Potomac River 14 Jun 1866 where he had gone to "bathe". It was the custom to take clean clothes to the river for an evening bath. Benjamin S. PENDLETON, CSA, was a courier to Stonewall Jackson, and went west as a young man, but returned to Shepherdstown and entered business. Albert PENDLETON, CSA, member of Stonewall's Brigade, was killed at the First Battle of Bull Run. Daughter, Elizabeth, d. in 1913, lived on the old HUMRICHOUSE property in Shepherdstown. In 1860 Margaret and her children are living with her father Albert HUMRICHOUSE. (FH9, WVJE13, WVJEb4) Children:

42.5a Benjamin S. PENDLETON, was a courier to Stonewall Jackson in the Civil War. His wife was probably Julia R._____? b. 8 Aug 1853, d. 9 Apr 1940, who is buried beside him in Elmwood Cemetery in Shepherdstown, WV. In the 1860 census, Benjamin is incorrectly identified as Benjamin WHITE, the name of his mother by her second marriage. (FH9, WVJE13, WVJEB4)

42 Albert HUMRICHOUSE: From the Virginia Free Press and Farmers Repository, 9 May 1833: Mr. Albert HUMRICHOUSE has commenced his horse mail three times a week between Shepherdstown and Charles Town; and we entertain some hope hat a stage will be authorized, so that we can have a connection with the Maryland stage lines. The following is the arrangements of our mails at present. By Shepherdstown arrives in Charles Town on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, at 6 a.m., returns the same day at 9 a.m. (WVBEB9)
42 Albert HUMRICHOUSE: A private post-office was maintained during the Civil War by Albert HUMRICHOUSE, who had a stage route between Shepherdstown, Winchester and points south. The Southern Post Office operated by Jefferson DAVIS, appointed Daniel S. Rentch, closed after one year of operation due to harrassement by Union Troops. (WVJEB1)
