d. c1578/59, m. Margaret HARTLEY, d/o John HARTLEY. In 1563 this
Lawrence was referred to as "junior" of Barnside; in 1564 listed as
being of Blacko, bordering Stone Edge; in 1566 a greave of the Forest of Pendle.
He became the first Master of Stone Edge. His will mad 5 Jan and probated 19 Jan
1597/98 names wife Margaret, and son, Lawrence as executors. He name five other
sons; Henry, Charles, John, Robert, and Thomas (VAB3 v81 p 319-367). Children:

Lawrence TOWNLEY, s/o Henry TOWNLEY, d. c1566, m. Helen (or
Ellen) HESKETH, d/o Thomas and Alice (HAWARD) HESKETH.
Lawrence TOWNLEY was son and successor to Henry TOWNLEY; in 1535
listed as bailiff of Barnside; on 23 May 1565 referred as deputy steward of the
Manor of Colne. He died c1566, designating son Henry as heir. His third son
Lawrence founded the Stone Edge branch of the TOWNLEYS (VAB3 v81 p

was the heir of Lawrence TOWNLEY of Barnside (VAB3 v81 p 319-367). Known children:

William TARLTON m. Alice HAWARD. Thomas HESKETH was from
Rufford, but had no legitimate issue. He left materials or money to Alice HAWARD,

Lawrence TOWNLEY, s/o John and Isabel (SHERBURNE) TOWNLEY,
d. 11 Oct 1539, m. Joan _____?. Joan probably m. 1st. a BANASTREE, and
had a son John BANASTREE. Lawrence TOWNLEY was the founder of
Barnside. A court battle ensued as to her rightful heir, however it appears that
Lawrence TOWNLEY prevailed. In 1514, he was elected greave of Colne
(VAB3 v81 p 319-367).

Isabel SHERBOURNE, d/o Thomas SHERBOURNE. In 1456, John TOWNLEY
