Who Did George TABLER Marry?

There is an assumption among some TABLER researchers that John George TABLER, son of Johan Melchoir TABLER and Catherine Elisabeth DORN, married to one Catherine EASTERDAY of Frederick County, MD. This assumption has proliferated the Internet and the TABLER family, especially in Berkeley County, WV, where George TABLER migrated, lived and died in 1827.

I suspect that this assumption came about, partly from the will of Melchoir TABLER'S second wife, Philipenne SPIESS BERGER TABLER, who apppears to have been the sister of Christian EASTERDAY, of Frederick County, or a sister to his wife. More than likely, she was a sister to his wife, for Chritian EASTERDAY married Julianna SPIESS, daughter of Conrad SPIESS. Also Christian EASTERDAY, names Catherine TABLER, in his will, but this is John Adam TABLER'S wife, as you will see below.

The assumption is further perpetuated in William Leslie Henry's, "The Saga of Johan Milgoir TABLER", 1963, page 17, when he asserts that George TABLER married Catherine EASTERDAY, daughter of Christian and Julia BLESSING EASTERDAY. There are several compelling reasons why this statement is incorrect.

First: Christian EASTERDAY (elder), m. Julianna SPEISS, not a BLESSING. They had four daughters. All four are accounted for as you can see below:

Second: Christian EASTERDAY (elder) and Julianna SPEISS his wife, d/o Conrad SPEISS, did have a son Christian (junior), b. 1752, d. c1839/40, but none of his three wives were named BLESSING. He married in order, Elisabeth HOFF, Catherine GEDDIS, and Elisabeth BURNS. This Christian EASTERDAY (junior) had a daughter Catherine, but she married, 5 Mar 1821, in Frederick County, MD, James H. FISH. If this Catherine married in 1821, she was probably born between 1795 and 1805. She died in 1872.

Third: John George TABLER was born in 1749, making him, give or take a few years, 50 years older than Catherine EASTERDAY, d/o Christian (junior). Taking in to account that all of  John George's children were born before 1791, this Catherine could not have been the mother of his children, even if he did marry her, and he didn't.

Fourth: There are no marriages for George TABLER to an EASTERDAY.

Who DID George TABLER Marry?

George TABLER m. Catherine CRON(E) of Frederick County, MD, daughter of Johan Konrad CRONE. Where is the evidence? In two places.

(1) Tucked away very neatly in the will of Johan Konrad CRONE in Frederick County, MD. His will, written 28 Apr 1807, probated 20 Nov 1808, "...Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Catherine TABLER Seventy eight pounds Maryland currency...".

(2) In Frederick Sheely Weiser's, "Records of Marriages and Burials in the Monocacy Church in Frederick County, Maryland and in the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation in  the City of Frederick, Maryland 1743-1811", page 3, 15 Oct  1771, Georg DEBELER and Catharina KRONIN, proclaimed Oct 6, 9, and 13.

   (3) This union is also stated in Virginia Crone JACOB'S, "A Family History, About John Conrad CRONE 1799-1863", a well researched book on the CRONES of Frederick County, MD. She goes on to describe locating Catherine CRONE and George TABLER in Berkeley Co., VA (WV).

Hopefully, this, plus the documents will put the matter to rest. If anyone has evidence to the contrary that would shed more light on the subject, please email the compiler.
