64-Archibald MORROW, b. c1753, m. 24 Mar 1778 (MDFR1, MDFRB1), Frederick Co., (65) Margaret HILTON, b. bef. 1755. Archibald is listed in the 1790 census, but the township is not listed. In the 1800 census, he is listed as living in Emmitsburg. More census work needs to be completed. Both were probably dead by 1820 or 1830. Possible children:
Arguments for Archibald MORROW:
The 1790 census for Frederick Co., MD, lists one Archibald MORROW, with 1 male over 16 (probably Archibald); 2 males under 16 (James MORROW #32 fits the age of one of these males, and John above may be the other); 2 females (one obviously is Margaret, and the other might be Elizabeth above). James MORROW #32 and Sarah HARTSOCK named their first daughter Mary Margaret Ann, a common naming procedure of the day, naming the first daughter after the two grandmothers, Margaret HILTON MORROW, and Anna Marie HOWARD HARTSOCK. A stretch maybe, but plausible. There are no other MORROWS living in the area at the time of James MORROW'S birth, which increases the chances that this is the correct progenitor of the family. There is a William MORROW in Frederick Co., c1790s, a weaver, who is probably the same William MORROW who moved to Charles Town, VA in the late 1790s.
Argument against Archibald MORROW
Then there is the nagging question of William Henry, the first son. If the naming procedure was used, the Henry came from the grandfather Henry HARTSOCK, but this leaves us searching for a William MORROW, as the paternal grandfather, not Archibald. However, the only William MORROW, a weaver, sold property in 1793, and disappeared from Frederick Co. I suspect that this is the same William MORROW, who shows up in Charles Town, Jefferson Co., VA c1795, who was from Ireland, and of the group I have named the Weaver MORROWS.
Margaret HILTON
Research has not proven the exact spelling of Margaret MORROW'S name. Archibald m. Margaret in the Frederick, MD, Evangelical Lutheran Church. She is listed in the church records as Margareth HUTTON. Another source has her name as HITTON. Another similar name in Frederick Co. records is HILTON. However, there are no HUTTONS or HITTONS in Frederick Co. during this period, but there are plenty of HILTONS. More research needed.
