32-James MORROW, b. c1775/94, Frederick Co., MD?, s/o Archibald and Margaret (HILTON) MORROW?, d. aft 1832, probably near Winchester, Frederick Co., VA, m. 19 Apr 1805, Frederick Co., MD, (33) Sarah HARTSOCK, b. 25 Feb 1783, Frederick Co., MD, d/o Henry and Anna Maria HOWARD HARTSOCK, d. aft. 1832, probably near Middletown, Frederick Co., VA. The graves have not been located. It was nearly 30 years before I could prove that James and Sarah were the parents of Joseph MORROW. The proof came from a descendant of Asbury MORROW, brother of Joseph . They don't appear in the 1810 census of Frederick Co., MD. Possibly they were living with parents, or a sibling, and could have been in either VA or MD. The first glimpse of the family is from the rolls of the Presbyterian Church records in Gerrardstown, Berkeley Co., WV, in 1817. Listed in those Sunday School rolls are Joseph, William, Sarah, and Marion MORROW. In the 1820 census of Berkeley Co., they were still in Gerrardstown, and by 1830, they had moved to the vicinity of Middletown, Frederick Co., VA. The age ranges of the children fit the census records almost perfectly. While in Frederick Co., VA, there were a few land transactions that lists James, Joseph, and William H. in the same deed (see below). By the 1840s the children had branched out to either Jefferson or Berkeley Co., WV, or MO. The youngest son, James William was in Middletown, VA in the 1850 census, but James and Sarah don't appear to be there, which would lead one believe that they had died by this time. After 1850, this youngest son moved back to Berkeley Co., VA, another indication that the parents may have died. They had 9 children:(LE30, MDFR1, VAFR2 Bk50 p13, Bk 51 p143, Bk60 p132)
From this deed of trust one gets a fairly good idea of what a farm family of the 1830s would have in their possession: Deed of Trust 4 Aug 1832: James MORROW of the 1st. part, indebted to Daniel T. Danner of the 2nd. part, and Joseph MORROW of the 3rd. part inthe sum of $500.50; James MORROW agrees to covey property for $1 the following personal property: 6 horses and colts (4 bays, one brown mare, one grey), 12 head of cattle (3 milch cows, a red and a white cow, 5 steers, 4 calves), 28 hogs, 10 sheep, 1 feather bed, bedstead and bedding, 1 bureau, 5 windsor chairs, with all other articles of household goods (skillets, ovens, frying pans, shovel, thongs, other items), 1 wagon, 2 harrows, 2 Barshear ploughs, 2 single shovel ploughs, 2 dobel shovel ploughs, 2 hay forks, 1 dung fork, 4 sets of gears, 1 woman's saddle, interest in a crop of wheat and rye, just gathered, a crop of corn grown in lands rented by William MORROW, a crop of oats on hand, a quantity of hay. The deed went on to explain that if the debt was paid before 1 Jan 1833, the trust was void. It was signed by James MORROW and Joseph MORROW. (VAFR2 Bk60 p132) Children:
32.2-Mary Margaret Ann MORROW, b.23 Mar 1806, Frederick Co., MD, d. 5 Sep 1841, probably in Berkeley Co., WV, m. 1 Sep 1835, Jefferson Co., WV, Thomas BAYLISS, b. 18 Aug 1785 d. 29 Oct 1840. She appears in the 1850 census alone with her children which suggests that she was a widow. In the 1860 census, she is residing with Joseph Randolph MORROW and daughter, Jane L. BAYLISS MORROW. By 1870, she disappears from the census records, and probably died between 1860 and 1870. (WVJE1, 12, WVJE13, BR7). They had four children:
- 32.2a Sarah J. BAYLISS b. 9 Jun 1836 d. 13 Nov 1881

REILY, , b. 12 Mary 1812, s/o Joshua and Ann RILEY, d. 11 Mar 1874. They had eleven children. Due to a recent discovery of the Family Bible Record (BR7), four more children, plus the full names, birth and death dates of all children have been added. The last four children are not in order of their births, because of their early deaths in childhood, they did not show up in the census records. (BIBLE RCORD) (BR7, WVJE1, 15)

32.4-Sarah MORROW, b. c1810/1811, Frederick Co., MD, d. after 1880, Jefferson Co., WV, m. 12 Nov 1855, Jefferson Co., VA, Daniel HELFEBOWER. Sarah m. late in life and had no issue of her own. Daniel appears in the Jefferson Co., 1850 Census with the following children: Catherine 21, Sarah 20, Elizabeth 9, John 16, Rebecca 14, Susan 12, Jane 10, Ann 8, Colin 4, Aaron 2, all b. in VA.(WVBE14)
32.5-Marion Washington MORROW, b. c1811/13, Frederick Co., MD. There is little information on this child. He is listed with brothers Joseph and William, and sister Sarah in the Gerrardstown, WV, Sunday School roster in 1817. Because of the absence of given names prior to 1850, it is difficult to determine where Marion lived, and he has not been located in the 1850 census. In 1860, a Washington MORROW, age 48, b. VA, appears with Hanson T. MORROW in Canton, Lewis Co., MO. The age of the Washington in the census fits this missing child. (MOLE2-3). His name may have been Marion Washington or vice versa. It was not uncommon to name a child 'Washington' in the time frame. George Washington died in 1809, and the name was quite popular. Another interesting note, Middleton S. MORROW of Lewis Co., MO, and son of H. T. MORROW named a son Washington Moore MORROW, quite possibly for this uncle. No grave could be located in Lewis Co., MO, the last known residence.
32.8-Asbury MORROW, b. 8 Jan 1818, Berkeley Co., VA, d. 3 Feb 1902, Quincy, Adams Co., IL, m. 1 Nov 1849, Lewis Co., MO, Sarah Louisa BROWN, d/o Jacob BROWN, b. 23 Apr 1849, Butler Co., OH, d. 15 Jun 1881, Canton, Lewis Co., MO. Both are buried in Forest Grove Cemetery, Canton. Asbury, the next to youngest child of James and Sarah MORROW was in Pike Co., MO by 1860, listed as a hardware merchant worth $27000, with personal property worth $15000. He and Sarah moved to Lewis Co., MO, by 1870, where he was listed as a trader in stock, but worth considerably less money. He was not found in the 1880 census, but by 1900, he was in Quincy, where according to the city directory of 1896-97, he is listed as a restaurant owner He is living with his daughter Mary SCHOFIeLD in both the 1900 and 1910 census. He had numerous land transactions while living in Pike Co., MO. (BR2, ILAD2-3, LAD1-4 Feb 1902, MOLE3, MONP9-6 Feb 1902, MONP10-15 Jun 1881, O2, MOPI3, 10) Children:
